Comon Guys... They're still kids yet, good grief. Detroit wouldn't give them a sniff of NHL action for another 2 + years if they were their players. They can't be all Jonny's and Monny's and Bennett's. We were spoiled by them and now everybodies got a sweet tooth and we're kicking them out the door at 20 yrs old. Pull your collective heads of of your arsses and let them grow for gosh sakes.

its just a discussion dude, no ones crying bust. think while you read and join in talking hockey.

no ones rushing the team its good. I'm just pointing out theres a surplus in a couple positions and i wonder if that will hinder development of some players.

Nurse got in a fight and got made a fool of on one of the goals. Hope he can get used to that regimen.

Lol. I stopped caring about preseason when the flames went 6-0 one year a while back and kotalik had like 5-6 goals in the preseason. We started 0-8 or something lol

He'll be in the AHL for a few months to polish up. He'll be feeding Gaudreau his dinner for years to come.

Yeah for sure! I can only imagine the excitement in the city up there. McDavid was the best thing to happen to Edmonton since Gretzsky, literally.

I just finshed watching the Calgary game, both teams were sloppy, but they had their moments. Johnny was flying, his teammates couldnt aim well tonight, could of set up a few goals. Cant judge the goalies tell they play a full game. Oilers young Dmen played better then the older guys, I hope the coaches an the Gm have the balls to send guys down making money, an play the guys who earn their spots. I loved how flames fans were calling out Nurse for not fighting Smith, well that happen. Anyways looking forward to watching some real games in a few weeks.

I dunno Klimchuk, Agostino I think are going to drift off into Neminsz/Reinhart+ land. Getting the odd game, but never making it

Was at the game here in Edmonton

The score was not reflective of the play. Given the line-up we sent up, I was expecting a complete route. Instead, the Flames looked big, fast and just made the Oilers look silly for 2.5 periods.
I think this was also a function of how bad the Oilers looked. Their defense couldn't get out of their zone...their powerplay was HORRID. Couldn't gain the zone, I think the PP where we scored shorthanded, they didn't even cross our blue line

Klimchuk was very mediocre in the game in Edmonton
Mangiapane was very visible in a bad way...as in he was noticeably too small to be effective....sorry guys, he's no Gaudreau. Too small and at least in this game, didn't show he had enough skill and speed to make up for the size.

Bouma also had an off game, looked lost, didn't have his usual fire
Wideman was a beast until the powerplay where he lost the puck in his feet and Lander went for a short handed goal

Engelland was slow but wasn't totally out to lunch thanks to decent positioning

The Van Brabant/Elson line impressed me
Anderson was pretty solid, I felt like he was always looking to pass right away. On the PP he was paired with Kylington for a bit

but nothing impressed me more than Kylington himself
DAM
he's fast, smooth
hit one crossbar early, then got a beauty splitting the D...totally a solo effort on his goal
Even my Oiler friend was like damnit, how did you guys get this guy at #60? I think he easily looked better than any d-man on either team tonight (Nothing against Russell and Wideman, they were solid and played the most minutes....but they weren't flashy and quick like Kylington)

What did you guys think of Nakladal?
I'm interested in hearing some analysis of the players fighting for jobs in the Calgary game

I liked him, you guys have 8-9 guys fighting for 7spots, all who have a role. Where the Oilers really only have 6 guys, but two them wont make it because of contracts. I think Calgary weakness this year, will be stoping the puck an who scores the goals. Im not saying both wont happen, Im just thinking its going to have to be from guys taking another step or others guys stepping up. Lets face it players off hot/cold seasons.

To even futher that. I like that he can move the puck well, but you dont know what you have tell he plays 10 to 15 games, his not a young man, so you will find out quickly if his game sticks or not.

So bouma didn't have his usual fire in the first preseason game of the year ...guess he's gonna be crap now ...and wideman looked sloppy in his first game at his age ...cut him ...magpie has been dominating kids in juniors and rookie camps ..I doubt he is used to playing against pros so I am not surprised his size showed as there is a reason he was passed in the draft

It's the first game of the preseason so expectations should be low for pretty much any vet who plays and and kid who has little chance to make it
