he still should be on the team this year.

Better for him to dominate Juniors than to make those types of turnovers in the NHL. He's a great kid but still a kid.

To be fair Gagner has made some nice passes tonight.
- MBFlyerfan

A couple. His skating though was slow (but we already knew that) and a lot of lost battles on the boards. The last 5-7 min of the game, since I posted last, he had his best shifts of the game. But I was keeping an eye on him, and I kinda came away feeling, "Meh." I'd like to see him with players who can skate better and create space with their legs though. That is not Gagner's strength really.

Considering how lob sided the islanders made their line ups I'm impressed by the Brooklyn game. Disappointed they deployed coots in a shut down role even as the top line and it being pre season

I thought them positioning him at left wing was interesting. Are they looking to see if he can fit on a line with Schenn

First pre season game, so I don't think too much should be made of it, but I was not impressed with Gagner. Thought he lacked jump.

I wonder if Konecny was a year older and performed like he did tonight if we would be throwing his name out there as an outside candidate for a spot, or at least an extended look. He's 18 and I'd prefer he'd go back down definitely. But my he looked good, in all facets. Keep in mind he played mostly with Bardreau and Rosehill. One game yada yada yada....but he looked damn good every single shift.

Flyers won against the Islanders B squad and rookies. Wheels potted a rebound on the PP, Raffl chased down every Islander skater singlehandedly, Umberger seems to have obtained a serum in the offseason expunging all zombie attributes from his blood stream, Konecky made some magic happen on a line with Rosehill, Medvedev looks to be a solid candidate to eat 20+ minutes for the Flyers every night, MDZ scored and set up a goal and Provorov is indeed an 18 year old kid.

Right now, yes they are. From what I saw of Medvedev tonight, the Flyers defense has a chance to be a lot better.

Obviously he's not the same level of player, but he reminded me of Patrick Kane in some glimpses. Has a lot of quickness, and has the ability to buy time and slow the game down, and create on his own. He's going to be a player.

For as young as he is, and yes it's one preseason game, but it looks as if he just "gets it", ya know?

Haag and Ghost playing top pair minutes in that Brooklyn game it looks like. From box score, they seemed to be on PP1 and PK2 as well. Interesting looking at them relative to Morin......

Ghost 25:14 minutes
Hagg 23:33
Gudas 20:38
AMac 19:50
Morin 16:13
Martel 13:48

making mistakes and being challenged is how you improve. This isn't a cup contender better for him to be up here taking his lumps now.

Most every pass, even through sticks and bodies and on the rush, seemed right on the tape or near it. Saucers landed wonderfully. He threw in some hits, skated like a fiend, managed to stay very elusive, shiftily moving through defenders on the rush and on the boards. What a debut.

If a player is overwhelmed and not ready to play at the NHL level, that is not an environment for a young player to improve. There's a difference between taking his lumps, and being pummeled.

I selfishly want to see Provorov play this year....but it's really not in his best interests unless he just blows everyone away.

At times this game he did. At times he looked 18. First few shifts of the game were a little nervous looking. He really settled in then and had an awesome rush play where he came out behind his own net on a retrieval, deked past a forechecker, blew through the netural zone, dished it off, and then darted to the net where he screened the goalie on a 3 on 2 scoring chance. In the third it looked like he hit a wall and the nerves kicked back in. He did well in not getting rattled from his mistakes though, and this game I came away with the thought that his future is VERY bright. Maybe not NHL bright just yet.

He definitely had some good moments, and it is his first game at the NHL level, although the Isles didn't exactly ice an NHL team. I don't think he was bad, but he didn't stand out the way that Konecny did. Too soon to make a final judgement based on one game, but just based on tonight, he's going back to Juniors, unless he get's a lot better in future games.

I would have taken him top-10 easily -- no idea how he dropped that far down.

Likely the steal of that 1st-round.

Konecny was the most dynamic player on either team in his limited time. Doing it with Rosehill made it that much better. He had me excited before the draft, when we took him, and now in his first pro performance. He could very well be an NHL player next season. Provorov showed me he's not ready in this small sample, but boy oh boy, when he's ready he could be special.

Excited for tomorrow.
