For those of you that are looking to regularly stream via bootleg site or gamecenter this is the absolutely best way to go as it allows you to play directly on your tv.

1) Buy a raspberry pi and case. Here is a bundle that includes wifi and power cord for $69 (you can certainly not buy a bundle and piece together what you don't have. The board and case should only run you about $45) http://www.amazon.com/Can...aspberry+pi+bundle+bundle

2) Install osmc on it (Kodi) http://osmc.tv

3) Install the NHL game center plugin or any of the various sports plugins (there are lots of them).

4) Use your phone/droid device to control it. You can also buy a cheapo usb receiver and connect it to a remote/harmony/many other options.

Anyone can do the install - nothing overly-techy. Alternatively you could install Kodi on a laptop or pc and get the same result (kodi full screen on tv via hdmi)

Been thinking about getting that kit. But My buddy told me that you can run kodi on an amazon fire stick or fire TV. Obviously the Pi can do more than that though.

A lot of Preseason hockey on tonight, for the folks that have Directv it's on the 600 channels.

we used the amazon fire stick with codes for baseball over the summer

it's ok, picture is not what I need

if you like it for background noise, works great

if you want to watch it, the picture really isn't worth the investment IMO

Kodi is free for every device. If using a laptop/pc you just need hdmi out (or whatever your tv has)

The picture is only as good as the stream. For that price I would get a pi as it is much more powerful. I have a movie server on my network and I can stream full-blown blu rays through the pi.

I just set this up on my mac desktop today after SB's advice. Took 3 minutes. First test in 40 minutes. I have AT&T out here in California and Sabres games are blacked out if they're on the NHL network, but AT&T doesnt carry the NHL network, or offer center ice. So, im hoping this is a solid work around rather than frantically hunting for links.
I pay for gamecenter, which is what i mean by blackouts.
I use gamecenter with a ROKU. unfortunately, my internet fluctuates wildly. So, sometimes i get a pretty lousy picture. Other times, its full on HD. Im looking for another ISP, but choices are limited and it sounds like they're all the same out here.

They are blacked out without a special sports package. I have the nhl one but apparently it doesn't work for preseason games. Plus I can't find the buffalo one in there.

Sabres aren't on, Canes and Caps on the NHL network. Devils and Rangers are on 635

Having an older modem/router can absolutely cause network spikes.
