I like it, also further evidence that the hawks are building three separate language cultures:

Russian

Tikhonov
Anisimov
Panarin

Swedish

Hjalmarsson
Kruger
Gustafsson

Slovak

Hossa
Dano
Viznofsky
Kopecky

They do this to help bring the young guys along and it is really smart.

Is that not a coincidence?

No, it is something they deliberately try to do.

They like having "language buddies" for Euro players, so they feel more comfortable and integrate into the dressing room better.

Also, if you were going to pick a couple of Euro countries to build around, Sweden and Slovakia are not bad choices.

Toews, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook - add Hjalmarsson with his gutsy play, Kruger by knowing his job and doing it - how many leaders does a team need?

Let's get some hockey players.

- StLBravesFan

You are missing the point. Viz would be a leader for specific players and help them transition to the NHL. Not to mention he is a proven veteran who can help this team on the ice versus having an inexperienced player or a dud on the bottom pair. As a Hawks fan you should know the importance and value of proven depth.

From the link BHawk1 provided...

"But according to the Tribune, those sources say both sides feel wronged and have threatened to walk away."

This is what I believe is the biggest "problem" holding up a settlement, even more so than money.

As for Runblad, we will see.

As for TVR, he hasn't shown me much of anything. Those first 19 games he was well protected and didn't display any great mental or physical prowess. Now, he could certainly settle in and become a good player, but I'm not sold on it. Plus, he has suffered a major injury almost every season going back to his pre-College days.

I heard that Rozy can't get the inflammation out of his injured ankle, and that most of his cardio work has been on the bike and not on skates.

Have any of you noticed that more and more the kind of players that Stan Bowman is bringing in, or trading for reflect Coach Q's preferences and needs? This is a good sign in my books.

I really like the Hartman kid, I hope he sticks.

As for the Hawks and Kane, as JJ said, regardless of how this plays out over the next month, this situation is NOT done in the eyes of Rocky Wirtz. We will hear what we hear tomorrow.

Finally, any deal for Bickell will involve the Hawks having to take back some of the salary, even if that involves another "bad" contract coming to Chicago.

Camp opens Friday!

- MexicoHawk

TVR is a rookie, I wouldn't expect him to show too much at this point in his career, especially coming off the injury. TVR is a very solid 3rd pairing defenseman with a fanstastic cap hit for the next 3 seasons. Why in the world would Stan consider getting rid of him. Worst case scenario would be TVR being the 7th defenseman, and his cap hit is fine for that.

If Gustafsson turns out to be as good as some people think it doesn't mean that TVR or Rundblad are automatically off the team. If Gustafsson makes the team and Bickell is traded (without taking too much salary back) then there is cap room for Gustafsson and one of the d-men on a PTO for one season. If Bickell stays and Gustafsson is as advertised then no d-men on a PTO make the team.

I view Rundblad like I did Morin at the start of last season. A borderline NHLer with a decent cap hit that could easily be moved (one way or another) if he doesn't work out. I would think that if the team had to choose between Rundblad and TVR that the Swede would be on his way out.

Not Swedish enough! If Detroit can't operate without at least 5 Swedish guys, neither can the Hawks.

Also, odds are that Slovak section is gonna see a 50% reduction by October 7th.

No you have a really good point. Nobody is going to replace the physicality that Bickell brought especially in those first two rounds of the playoffs.

Bickell was invisible.

His 2 hits per game were nothing of relevence in 2015.

Dano will be physical on the forecheck. Hes like a wrecking ball that can score.

AA will be physical enough.

We all miss 2013 April -June Bickell but I believe that player will never ever ever return.

So "innocent until proven guilty" is an immoral position for the Hawks to take?

This could settle today or not at all. Would the "high-faluting" Blues act differently? How?

Are you saying the Blues would suspend Tarasenko if he was in a similar position?

Your preaching on this topic seems to be rooted in something....

- tredbrta

My "preaching" on this topic is solely in the idea that the Hawks front office is somehow holding it's players to a higher ethical standard than the rest of the league. I'm sorry, but they're not. They're managing their brand as best they can in a difficult situation.

I believe the Blues would do the EXACT SAME THING. The difference? I don't think that Armstrong or the ownership would do anything more than make business decisions about their brand and their image. If a player benefits their image, they will keep him.

Remember Doug Gilmour. That trade to Calgary was the quietest trade of an All-star player that I've ever seen. Why? Because he was a jag bag who "allegedly" fondled a babysitter. Was he ever proven guilty? No. Did he pay her a settlement? Yes. Does that mean he was innocent? My guess is no.

Anyone who would suggest the Hawks are doing anything but managing their brand is deluded.

If we're just talking about checking I'm sure somebody will step up. Maybe Hartman since the team is so high on him.

I've been lifting weights for years and I can tell you that 6' 215lbs at 20 years of age is a FREAKIN BEAST! ManChild 2.0 for sure as far as physicality. This is a very exciting Training Camp as the youth infusion should make for some very interesting Regular Season games. I expect a lot of "growing pains" and as the HockeyWriters said yesterday, Artemi Panarin will become a household name! Toews Hossa Dano should be fun to watch

In regards to the Kane situation, lets just call it what it is, an easy solution to a difficult situation. To prove rape is very difficult from a prosecution standpoint, and difficult for the accuser. She is likely wanting a deal since she may not prove the rape happened in court. For Kane, he may want to do a deal, because even if innocent, he may be found guilty, on her word alone. A deal is likely the best outcome for both, and does NOT determine guilt or innocence on either's part.
- eerie13

This is of course true, but despite being the more convenient solution for both parties, it carries with it one big flaw. It obscures resolution. Less of it for her, Less of it for him, and none of it for the public. What would become a matter of public record in court would then be hidden away with no way to interpret what actually did happen. In a way, it serves as a permanent continuation of what we have been doing all summer, which is guessing and judging. It might be the preferred way out for the two of them, but to Rocky's revenue source (I mean us fans), a settlement leaves too much doubt.

I personally felt TVR showed amazing poise for a rookie in his first 19 games. Being a 5-6 dman, aren't you almost always protected, especially as a rookie? He seemed confident and made some really solid plays in my eyes. Never really looked baffled out there. I personally hope he can stay healthy though. All I can say, is thank god hockey talk is starting to over take TMZ talk here. I missed it too much.
- LuckyStrikeW

I agree and he played significant time with top 4 guys as well...

Anisimov

Daley
Garbutt
Hejda?
Paille?

That's a LOT of turnover and while the replacements look good on paper or on youtube, it is really hard to say how well or how soon they'll mesh.

Also, the Hawks have played a LOT of hockey over the last three seasons. More than any other team and I know personally a lot of the veterans (Toews, Keith, Seabrook, Hossa) couldn't wait for all the celebrations to end and get out of town and rest. Not a "young" team anymore.

And then there are still many question marks surrounding Kane, even if he suits up at camp.

This team could be great or it could really struggle. Just too many variables right now.

- John Jaeckel

It could be a different type of season where some of the best regular season hockey has to be played after December.

Ben Smith is definitely not 6' tall but he is a very strong guy himself. I'd place Smith more at 5'10/11 and 200lbs as a fully grown man (25 yrs old i think?). 20 years of age and this guy is WIDE and has serious mass for 6'. This is a guy that will be very difficult to knock off the puck and he will only get bigger! Not to mention he has sooo much more skill than Ben Smith, though I did appreciate Benny's contributions while with the Hawks.

Agree completely, for Q the only Dmen he would admit to knowing are Keith, Seabs and Hammer. All of the rest are going to earn their job.
