Very tough for some fans here to be judging the Blackhawks as superficial in their concern for the team "culture" or brand.

They are in a tough spot with Kane right now, as in NO OPTIONS short of attempting to void his contract. They can't suspend him unless the DA's office lays charges, they can't trade him until his "matter" has been resolved (and its coming), so they are left with accepting his presence and making the best out of it. Both Coach Q and Toews were broached about the possibility of playing Kane while the situation played itself out, and both were fine with it. END OF STORY, until the matter is resolved.

With Kane the Hawks have a real shot at repeating as Cup champs. Rushing to move him will result in a restricted return. The Hawks will do what is right when it is expedient to do so. Remember THEY did not ask to be put into this situation, so they need to slowly evaluate what is happening around them and what is best for the franchise moving forward. Is that moving Patrick Kane? Likely, but why be in a rush about it? They have been pushed to this point, why not let things play out and see what happens. They have a Coach and Team leadership group who can handle this matter in the clubhouse. Its time for training camp and the Bryan Bickell debate to begin.

I get that, but did people really expect Kane to get into the details of an ongoing investigation? I'm not aware of any situations where a team comments about a player's legal issues when the process is still unresolved.
- DarthKane

I didn't see it, but I would have liked to hear about him showing somewhat more remorse and resolve to do better than he apparently showed.

I felt that comment was directed more to the turn over of players after a cup win .

I think they want you to be able to read the subtext both ways. IE, Kane is as good as gone and also that he's not. That way they can move forward nimbly whichever way they wind up having to go with him. Also, making Kane own up to his deficiency and then following it up with MCD's not so subtle barbs could be their way of scaring the poop out of Kane about being moved, sort of like a very public "This is you last chance, bumhole!"

Yes, that's what I mean. I'm surprised he couldn't answer those questions. I think any person would feel bad about putting a team, teammates and organization in a tough spot.

Then they had better get ready for the feminist support groups to (justifiably, IMO) go after them for "sweeping it under the rug" - which, to most people who don't pay as much attention as we do, will be what it looks like.

Agreed with the first part absolutely, but 2012 WAS his final warning.

I know some refuse to believe that. But . . . He's toast unless he VOLUNTARILY takes steps to dramatically alter his image and makes the team believe he's changed. Otherwise? DONE.

McD was paving the way for a trade.

Kane - "Once all the facts come to light, I am confident I will be absolved of having done nothing wrong."

Honestly, I do feel bad for the Hawks. This organization has built their staff and their team the right way. The fans went through some pretty awful years. Huet and Thibault?

It's too bad Patty Kane can't figure out how to grow up not just for the Hawks but also for his own well being.

- eggsegan

Honestly? You seem to be happy to see him go (if he does).

Back to the standard of excellence discussion. Did you see McDonough's comments? Brand management or actual higher standard? IS there a possibility one may include the other?

True, but if from his perspective Kane did nothing wrong what would he be apologizing for? I'm not saying Kane shouldn't have said anything, but I'm trying to think about it from his perspective.

Sure hope they can get return value, but just cannot fathom it at this time.

So FourFeathers, do you think this is all a game and a charade and they were patting his back and don't care if this happens again?
- John Jaeckel

No, but flying out and saying "Wow, he's gone" is just a knee jerk reaction when you speculate its been leaning that way for some time now.

Had he been for sure on the way out, no way they let him speak to the press the day camp convenes

I know that 2012 was his last warning, but... sometimes I have given my children a last warning, and then one more "and I really mean it this time!"

Agreed. Still think it's a 'scared straight' situation for now, unless the Hawks don't get the reaction from Kane they're looking for.

Find it very interesting that they are all commenting that they can and will answer detailed questions about their initial reactions, how they feel about the situation, about Kane on the team, etc. at a later date. Justify/explain ultimate decision on his fate [assuming not determined by courts], whatever it is?

Disagree. They CAN'T suspend him. But he hasn't been arrested. So he's there. But they also can't trade him right now. Who's going to make any kind of offer for him while he's under felony investigation.

So he may well be . . . for sure on the way out. Just not right now.

How does one do that when they believe THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG? I believe Kane thinks he's a guy who just has "things happen to him", like "so what, I'm a 26 year old getting drunk and looking for a girl who's not my girlfriend. What's the big deal."

And what knowledge does he have about the sport? HE IS NOT A HOCKEY GUY!!!! We have been saying this since the news broke that he would be the one who would be the most butt hurt about this. He still hasnt been charged. It's been a month and a half. Let him do his job.

Winning made this city alive again. Kane helps us win. He will not make another mistake. Guys, I have come to this site for five years to read the opinions of hockey people. People who know the game. Everyone that posts on this board knows more about hockey and the sport in totality compared to John McDonaugh. So big deal, we are the most hated team in the league now. Makes every game a playoff game moving forward. Better prepares us for another Cup.

Pat Brissen indicated earlier in the week that the Kane situation would be "explained Thursday". Hard not to think they may have expected to be announcing a settlement and that fell apart. Thus the long faces - particularly Kane's.

Or they're just embarrassed/uncomfortable having to address this publicly. How would you be at the podium?

Problem is, Duke, and this is where the comparison to Crawford falls flat, this is not the first time, this is not the second time.

Thing is, the Blackhawks aren't just a sport team. They're a business, inside an even bigger business (the NHL).
