Right. Was that an admission of guilt?!! He does look like he is going to puke from nerves, though.

Nah, chalk it up as slip of the tongue (though he was reading from a piece of paper...)

Kane made a statement that a couple of us quoted a part, and prior the media was informed to ask hockey only questions of Kane

That "absolved" quote is absolutely flying around Twitter - he's going to wish he caught and corrected that

Why did the lawyer say yesterday that the situation would be explained, and then not say anything or allow questions?

I just heard the Hawks have hired/consulted a p.r. firm/consultant to help guide them through the Kane mess.

Also that they have no leeway to suspend him as he has not been charged. There are apparently some in the FO hoping he will voluntarily take a leave of absence in order to get things cleared up.

They want the negative publicity to die. Rosenbloom is right this morning. They are in a really tough spot.

I was wondering if Kane appreciated the questions.

Mex never said anything about Bicks, it was me. The fact is that after the 2013 season, he was labeled as a top 6 power forward and could have gotten $5 + Mil from another team. Nobody complained when he signed at $4mil with the Hawks. I agree that he is not playing up to his contract, but I was just making the point that this what have you done for me lately bs is a little unfair.
- Boisy12

Boisy, I tend to agree...I completely understand the value of Bryan Bickell, so does Nashville and Minnesota. Bicks was in the top 3 of voting for the Conn Smythe in 2013. But as Enzo said, his contract at $4 million hurts this team as we are strapped against the Cap. If Bickell stays this season, and is healthy, he is going to help this team quite a bit.

So this is the cause of this grandstanding? Where was it said anywhere the Hawks are holding their players to a higher ethical standard than the rest of the league? Link to it.

The clear impression here is the new regime has set a higher ethical standard than the old guard and previous management teams. Not necessarily the rest of the league. I would say that - based on playoff results the last several years - they are expecting a higher competitive and professional standard (see the Nick Boynton release and Carcillo warnings) than much of the league.

Certainly a higher competitive standard than the Blues - no consequences there for year in and year out chokes. Backes should have been demoted and Hitch fired by now. Probably would have been here.

And the "managing the brand" discussion has been the most consistent topic here since Kane was accused. Back read a little and determine context before you need to vent your Hawk envy.

David Haugh, Chicago Tribune 8/11/15 - "The thing about setting a standard of excellence as high as the Hawks have is living up to it; no single player, not even a living legend, can compromise that commitment to integrity."

I was responding to your earlier questions. It's clear that when the Hawks spoon feed you guys this "Standard of Excellence" bullpoop on and off the ice that you eat it up. It's marketing...

Any semblance of regret, repentance, promise of reform for actions that put him and his team in an embarrassing situation?

Any "sorry for any problems I have caused, although I didn't do anything legally wrong, I'm sorry for again putting myself into a bad situation...."?

Yawn.... Specious at best. Haugh is not the Hawks and "standard of excellence" isn't exactly an uncommon theme in pro sports. The only marketing pitch we are spoon fed is "one goal". The Hawks own that slogan. The blues may want to rent it some time.

They just asked the little S OB if he was gonna stop drinking??? The last time I looked stopping to drink has nothing to do with " the legal process". It will be business as usual for him once the smoke clears. He"ll do something stupid again. He would have been a bigger man if he would have said "yep I"m done" ,hasn't hit his bottom yet. More yets to come . What do they say at the tables? Institutions, insanity, death are inthebag of yets ?
