The skill stick was introduced in NHL 07.

X is pass ever since 94( that's as far back as I can remember) anything after that is a noob

Also hybrid still uses the skill stick the only difference is the pass button and a more complicated stick lift.

Only played a few games so I'm still warming up

So far really good, but my only gripe is the poke check seems too effective. It's easy for someone who's not very skilled to spam poke check and the puck always ends up in their possession.

- digitalbath

I always hated playing online because whoever was better at poke checks would win the game. There was never any attempt at defensive play just spam the poke check button and hope for the best. I'm pretty sure if you have Ovie bearing down on you and you lunge at him with a poke check he's going to make you look silly and you'll be fishing the puck out of your net 9 times out of 10. I really hoped they fixed it, but it doesn't sound like it.

Wut.

I use the default controls, which is the skill stick, since NHL 07. There's really no other way to play, in my opinion.

I have played since NHL 93 and I am well aware of the controls. I used to use hybrid but was shamed into skill stick in NHL 12.

I used to make up teams, pull players from squads etc. We would make up a team of free agents etc. Seems like that feature was pulled. Disappointed.

I wonder how long the video game industry will survive just making a game slightly better than last years? Reminds me of Hollywood with all the remake movies. I think the video game industry needs an 'outside the box' type revolution
- Buffalo--Sabres

This is only really true for many sports games and games like call of duty.

There is so much out there in terms of innovative content and design, so I wouldn't say the entire industry "needs an outside the box type revolution".

As far as NHL's go - for pure entertainment/competitively value - NHL14 was probably they're best iteration ('98 - '94 fans are livid). Sleek and tolerable physics, great hits, decent passing, decent teammate and goalie AI (better than '15, for sure), and plenty of game modes that you could tool around with. Oh and the best multiplayer of the franchise.

Learn how to shoot you baby.

If you are getting 50 shots and only score 1-2 times you're firing a bunch of piddlers.

- The-O-G

I know how to shoot... I have played every NHL game since 07, the shooting has never really changed, the game just sucks.

You stand a better chance of touching a boob this year than any of that happening....barely.
- Jeropotato

It's funny that's where you went, of all the sports things you could say you went to boobs. In my experience people tend to try and burn someone with whatever they think would hurt them the most. You sir have my sympathy for your 1 boob a year life. It must be a very sad existence.

I played a few games last night and I must say the gameplay is WAY batter than 2015. Less sluggish, turning is a lot better, and its overall just a lot more fluid. Could be the best NHL in years.
