Is kaleta a part of a cup team...sadly no..give the torpedo some respect however.. he sacrificed his body on some bad teams...one of the few guys to take on lucic....he is not garbage but actually achieved more than you or i will in their life by strapping them up

yup...a 29 yr old dude who is money on the pk...plays his heart and soul out every game...will stand up for his teammates....

don't want him on the team...for god sakes could you imagine if he was on the ice when miller got hit?!...we might have actually responded instead of looking like giant pussies.....the nerve!

Do you want any of the guys you listed taking a slapshot to the face and being out for 6 months with reconstructive facial surgery?
....because thats exactly where Kaletas value lies.
He can kill penalties adequately and no one cares if he goes out of the lineup.

In the modern NHL, thats pretty much the whole point of your bottom six.
You dont want your scorers blocking shots. They're too valuable.

I don't understand this logic. If Kaleta's value is that of a human punching bag on the penalty kill he'll probably spend more time on IR than on the ice so how does that make him a valuable penalty killer? Guys like O'Reilly and Reinhart aren't going to do what Kaleta does. Those guys will use their head in another way, to read the play/intercept passes. Will they end up blocking shots? Sure but it's one thing to block it with your shins it's another to throw yourself at the shot the way kaleta does.

I didn't mind Kaleta, it's just that his time is done here. Thanks for everything Pat, you were a real heart and soul player. It's too bad that others don't see that - I guess it's just "cool" to bag on him now, and when one does it, it seems like others pile on just to be accepted.

I was always a Kaleta supporter till last season when I knew he wasn't going to change. Instead of working on his game, (he has the tools), he chose to be a human torpedo. He needed the right kind of coaching, or maybe he just didn't listen. I give up on him.

Good win for the kids last night. Apparently they utilized their speed to move out of the zone quickly and lots of praise about Rodrigues. We should have a good team down there this year. The Eichel/Baptiste combo could be something we'll see in the future.

The final thing I'll say about Kaleta is that if you look at this lineup, there really isn't a spot for him. We have guys now that can kill penalties and it would appear the 4th line is gonna be a combination of Legwand/Foligno/Larsson/Cody/DesLauriers. Plenty of guys to play in that role. I just hope if they need to recall a forward it ain't that bum Kaleta and it's Schaller or Varone. Heck, Rodrigues might get some games here this year.

Patrick Kaleta had an almost elite ability in shot suppression. I would argue this is the most important statistic for fourth line players, who generally are going to get outplayed. The bare minimum a coach can ask for is that they don't get scored on and Kaleta, when he was NOT injured (I realize this was very rare) was quite good at that.

note: he did not play enough games in 2015 to have that season on the chart

The sample size is small, but notice how the shot rates are greatly reduced at the points, which is where he generally played

If you're looking for someone who brings minimal value to the team, I nominate Nicolas Deslauries.

Yes, I know that he hits and brings toughness, but remember that you can only hit if you are chasing the puck. He's a popular guy around here and I'm not sure it's warranted. You need guys with those abilities, but his possession metrics are just too awful to be on a good hockey team

So with all due respect to those objecting to the Laletta signing, he signed an AHL. Contract for Rochester. Down there he will provide leadership for the youngins in terms of high compete levels and dedication needed to win in the big league. It is a good signing...there isn't any issue with him taking a spot from a young guy in the NHL nor the AHL for that matter.

Nothin to see here, move along.

I sat behind the bench and the speed of the team was impressive. For an 18 yr old, eichel is huge - tall and wide. Really unusual. Rodriguez was impressive but be looks tiny next to eichel. Chapman is huge and moved relatively well for a bit but. I can't express how impressed I am with guhle. Best skater on the ice and moves up in the rush nicely. I suppose that's why they signed him already

I'm not sure who Laletta is lol. I know we all have differing opinions on players, it's what makes this board fun.

I heard/read somewhere that Rodrigues was the best player for BU down the stretch and into their playoffs. Good stuff.
