ya can't win 'em all...that being said, I really don't understand why petey spent all that time critiquing cornel's game in the first period...

You're right, but it is nice to hear that it seems like we've found a unsigned guy who might be a diamond in the rough. Other teams have managed to do this, I had hopes on Ruhwedel, still like him as an NHL bottom pairing but with all the D-men Murray has signed what's his future with organization.

Rudy's a good d-man, showed very well in Rochester this year, played in all situations...he's developing nicely...is he an nhl'er?...I think you've got it right

Kane, O'Reilly, Eichel, Reinhart, Girgensons. Kaleta's main attribute on the PK is his shot blocking which would be great except that's usually what lands him on IR.

I completely forgot what it feels like to watch my favorite team dominate a game. It's a great feeling.

3 of those have yet to play a game in a sabres uniform and reinhart has only a few under his belt...i'll hedge my bet on the proven thing...

and don't misread that as me saying any of them will be bad on the PK.....but if i want someone blocking shots and going on the IR...it certainly isn't those 4

Those 4 are good at reading the play and using their smarts/speed to be effective penalty killers. That's why they'll be a better option than Kaleta.

Fun game to watch. Won't get into the normal characters, as you know them. 3 that really impressed me were guhle, chapman, duyuy (spelling) and macharov (goalie). Guhle especially looks like he'll be a big time player

Kaleta has no business being near this team unless he's wearing an alumni sweater.

yup...a 29 yr old dude who is money on the pk...plays his heart and soul out every game...will stand up for his teammates....

don't want him on the team...for god sakes could you imagine if he was on the ice when miller got hit?!...we might have actually responded instead of looking like giant pussies.....the nerve!

Do you want any of the guys you listed taking a slapshot to the face and being out for 6 months with reconstructive facial surgery?
....because thats exactly where Kaletas value lies.
He can kill penalties adequately and no one cares if he goes out of the lineup.
In the modern NHL, thats pretty much the whole point of your bottom six.
You dont want your scorers blocking shots. They're too valuable.

Why is it that we can't cut the chord with guys like that bum Kaleta and Ellis? Jeez.

And Murray just said this week he doesn't like PTO's.

- mhp

He said he didn't like PTOs for older guys with no chance to make the team. Kaleta is already signed in Rochester so he's signed in the org just not necessarily for the big club yet and if he doesn't make the team he'll just go down to Rochester, and he's far from old.

The easy one first - no to Kaleta. I don't think he is a good role model for any young draftees that he would play with in Rochester.

Regarding Lehner, I am still shaking my head at this one. While I really like most of the moves that TM has made, this one makes me the most nervous, particularly for the price that we paid. Guys that get hit hard in the noggin' never seem to be the same again. Reimer hasn't been the same goalie in T.O. since he got concussed. Lieuwan got concussed and couldn't stop a beach ball after his return. I hope I am wrong and he becomes the next Bernie Parent but I'm not so sure......

- SabreWest

I don't really care one way or the other about Kaleta, he'll be a non-factor more than likely play-wise, but there's a lot more to being a role model than just level of play. I think the thing about him is he leaves it all out on the ice. And he can teach the young guys to do the same, but at the same time that occasionally hurts him as he get's too into it.

I see the major difference between Kaleta and someone like Matt Cooke is that most of Kaleta's bonehead moves were heat of the moment stuff like the infamous headbutt. You could almost see the wheels turning in Cooke's head before his bonehead moves especially the Savard hit. If he could just learn to reel it in just a little he'd be a very good bottom 6/second unit PK. At his core I don't think he's a dirty player, and I don't think he sets out to maim like Matt Cooke has done. I can't remember him running around with his elbow up; sure he'll get some charging penalties, but that's not the same thing. If this was the 90's everyone would love Kaleta, a player who walks the line and occasionally steps over it, but Cooke would still be seen as a dirty player.
