I count one top pairing guy in that group.

agreed, but if risto is playing the left, then a bottom 4 should be what is needed

I think unless they win one of the three lottery spots they trade their pick. There's really no point in being as aggressive as Murray has been just to take a guy who will probably be 3 years away from being a top 4 guy on the team.
- Sabresfan-365

It just depends where they fall in the draft. If we one of those D men are available, I would make the pick.

Let's not move anyone yet, let's see what we have.
I think we are now approaching a point where our prospect pool is thinning out, so I like to see us continue to build through the draft, and UFA's.

- IonSabres

I've been saying this for awhile now. There's been a lot of roster movement this summer. I want to wait and see how things play out a bit before more changes are made.

Yandle and Russell are the only one's I like in that group. Soup is too old and he'll want big money, I'd pass. Russell will probably re-sign.

With the Franson signing, he'll be in Rochester. At least until the injury bug bites. But with the amount of guys they have now, that bug will have to bite pretty damn hard before he'll get the nod.
- HonkFortheGoose

Agreed, and the best thing for him long term.

I'm fine with him on the 2nd pair. Problem is we now have about 4 2nd pairing caliber defensemen, and 1 potential 1st pairing guy.

I think to eventually win a cup, we are going to need a stud back there

- sbroads24

I think amongst Risto (especially him), McCabe, Pysyk and Bogo we have what will be a phenominal top-4 and all have stud potential. Of course they have to develop more, but that is an incredible under-24 year old group of D men.

Are any going to be the next Pronger? No. But I can see Risto and McCabe growing into a top pair to rival anyone out there now in a few years, and Pysyk/Bogo being a most solid 3/4.

Chychrun's the only one that's really stood out as a guy who could step in right away. Krys has had injury problems and is 5'11 165 . Like an anti murray player

if risto is the point producing d man moving the puck on the top pair then a defensive minute eater should be paired with him, who can play 22-24 minutes a night and clear the front of the net

or am I missing something

I like McCabe a lot but nothing he's done suggests he's going to be a top pairing guy. Those 3 guys all have the potential to be good defensemen but i'd want another guy equal to risto playing on that top pair to handle the other teams best players.

I'm with you Goosie, for me I think this team is like an expansion franchise in its 3rd season...we are on the ground floor of ascending up...let's enjoy the ride up rather than running to the top floor!

The part where Bogo isn't that, at least not against the other teams best players.

Risto doesn't stirke me as a point producing guy, more like a 2 way player.

really?

has 10 goals in first 112 games in the nhl
put up 20 points on the worst nhl team ever at the age of 20 last season

he has skills

I will look at the players numbers closer this season with a competent roster and nhl coach

I may take some heat for this, but I think Yandle is a bit over-rated because of the minutes he got on a crappy yotes team and playing for team usa

IMO he is a 3/4 man on a decent team, kind of like bogo

I didn't mean to say that he has no/limited offensive skills just that it's not the main part to his game. He strikes me as more of 35-40 pt with excellent defense kind of guy.

Edit: quick search turned up a pretty interesting stat, Risto and Bogo are amongst the best d-men with unblocked shooting %. Never really noticed, worth keeping an eye on this year.

Most of his numbers suggest he's a top pairing guy, but clearly stronger offensively than defensively. I think he'd work well with Risto.

They are having an Oktoberfest at Memorial Park today 3-11 if you're thinking of hanging around the village today.
