Maybe. But being London, and with hunter I don't think they are too worried about overseeing his development.

Nurse was 7th overall and Shinkaruk was 24th lol.

The top six were Mckinnon, barkov, drouin, jones, lindholm and monahan
Mckinnon, barkov, jones, linholm and monahan all went right into the NHL. Only Drouin took a year longer.

Ryan strome agrees.

Marner will be a better player than Ryan Strome [by far].
You probably found the one and only FW that was drafted top 5 last 5 years and did not play 20+ games in his first 2 years after being drafted.

I am saying that it's a 50-50 shot, and actually Drouin is a good comparable to Marner (points in draft year + being a 'light' player meaning not 200lbs+). Drouin indeed needed 1y extra to be ready, but in year 2 after being drafted he played 70 games for the Lighting.

So I'm not saying Marner will definitely making the team this year playing his 10+ games, but happy to make 100US$ bet that he will get 10+ games in NHL before the 2017-2018 season.

So far his development is ahead of his, yup. But let's not go the opposite way in absolutes. Not yet anyways. Drouin is a good comparable though.

first year 21 points in 67 games.
2nd year 12 points in 40 games (shortened season).
after that breakout season 63 points in 80 games.

They have him now signed on a 4million/cap hit for another 3 years. (original deal 4y)
that's quite a good caphit for a young #1C that will produce 65-70points per season.

It was the point i was trying to make re caphit after ELC.

Actually, the strategy of playing him 'early' (1y after draft) has worked out quite well for him with the numbers he put up last 2 seasons (71points last season).
so yes, definitely worth it. both from a player development perspective as well as from a cap management perspective.
