He's weak defensively so for his salary, he needs to produce 50+ pts to be cost effective. Flyers should be tanking anyway. They aren't realistically competing this season.

I love me some Flower.

Just a fun personality who has totally endeared himself to Pittsburgh and its fans, even during the rough patches a few years ago.

And he's totally capable of standing on his head at any given time, something he did quite a bit last year. Despite all the star power, the Penguins wouldn't have sniffed the playoffs without Fleury.

And of course he's lifted something that none of the guys ahead of him on the list have lifted.

- hardnosed

course I'd take schneider over him for 2 reasons

age

and

he's my distant cousin

The flyers aren't too far from being the team to beat in the division. I'd say two years for our d to improve. The pens on the other hand are in desperation mode to win now. This will sacrifice their youth and bonehead trades destroying the pens. The window has closed. With the world talent they have one cup is an absolute failure. There should be multi cups in Pittsburg not just one.

Flyers will be AT LEAST #6 in the metro for the next several years. Rangers are always good, Penguins have at least 5 good years of this group left, Capitals are probably in a similar boat to the Penguins, and the Islanders and Blue Jackets are finally starting to take off.

Flyers aren't going anywhere for a while, bud.

Window is shut for them - they are the new Habs! Holding on by the skin on their goalies chinny chin chin!

Flyers..................

The Flyers are a bottom 9 and 6 defensemen away from being able to spell playoffs. And our future is just fine despite actually putting effort into being a contender every year. We have 2 future NHL starter goaltending prospects and a talented, dynamic young defense with 2 future all world talents that are both 21. We have Sprong and in 5 years trading Letang, Kessel, Malkin and even Crosby will bring back multiple first round picks and high end prospects. At the end of the Crosby and Malkin reign we might have 2 bad years before we are right back at contender again. When was the last time the Flyers had true contender status? The 90's? How bitter and jealous can you Flyer fans be?

Holtby and Schnieder are pretty close comparables. The big difference being Holtby's stellar playoff numbers.

Habs aren't in that bad of shape. But they're also not the elite team that their record last season would suggest.

I'm not saying they are bad, but they aren't winning any time soon - they will compete due to Price though. Hence my comparison. Rags chance was 2 seasons ago & they have got worse every season since - in my opinion.

Hahaha good luck trading away all of those NTC's.

PS kind of a Richard move to trade away Crosby and Malkin considering they basically saved your franchise. Guess you don't think very highly of either of them.

The difference here is PIT MUST win another cup or two within the next 5 years.

PHI's insane crop of defense and (hopefully a few more )young forward prospects will be hitting their stride in the next 5 years.

yeah....

crosby will not ever be traded.
malkin will return to russia
kessel and letang may be traded

the rest is accurate. you dont have to exaggerate to make philly look bad. you have to over exaggerate to make them look even above expansion team right now.

Having good defensive prospects somehow guarantees future success? NYI and CBJ have better current rosters and prospect pools.

Yes, last time I checked quality prospects=quality nhl players.

Of course there are exceptions to this rule, not all players will develop to their full potential. But when you have 4-6 highly touted defense prospects, at least 1 or 2 of them is bound to pan out.

I don't see what CBJ or NYI rosters have to do with any of what i said but yes they are absolutely better right now barring any crazy injuries.

NSH has had a great defense for years and won nothing. It's insanely ignorant to believe just having a good crop of defensive prospects alone will be enough to fix everything.

Or what the world will explode? They MUST not do anything. I think very highly of those 2 but if it came down to having to rebuild a future we supposedly threw away iit wouldn't take much at all. And NTC's are easy to move because those 4 are winners and if they had a chance to move on to help a contender for that season they most likely would. AND most importantly your defense "crop" is only insane in the context of your current mindset and that's it. They have the potential to be NHL players at this point and not much more than that.
