Yes, he has earned that right. The other 22 players have earned the right to get ready for the season without a huge distraction and a media circus, as has the team.

Kane is a young man with MANY, MANY advantages, in spite of his present turmoil. it is unlikely he will spend any significant time in any kind of "hard time" incarceration even if he is guilty of the worst things rumored in this case.

What is best for him right now is some serious reflection and taking responsibility for WHY it is always HIM who ends up in these situations every third summer (at least the times that have been publicized) and considering making some serious changes in his lifestyle.

I wouldnt presume to tell Kane what is best for him right now. All my comments are premised on the scenario that he feels he's innocent and wants to defeat all allegations to the contrary. If he believes he needs time off for reflection, I would support him wholeheartedly. if he's really serious about pursuing a 12 step program what might be best for him is to retire from hockey (oh wait, if the new contract kicked in, does that trigger cap recapture penalties? No Patrick, that's NOT the best thing for you!)

Great question. I'd love to get a big shot and/or a bit of a more imposing presence on the blueline. I know the Hawks smaller and quicker Defenesmen have done a great job over the years, but it would be nice to have someone who could lower the boom or at least make guys think a little bit more when coming into the zone. I kind of though Johns would develop into that kind of guy. We'll see how he does in Dallas.

Finally - we'll get the definitive answers on Kane, as well as Bickell / Versteeg and Kruger.

You're saying that it is unfair to suspend him because it if a court finds that it was fair to suspend him that could be used against him? If it was fair to suspend him, then he should have been suspended, right?

Well, in my original answer, I said I was looking for a big shot and more physicality on the blueline, but I couldn't think of a guy at the time. Gudbranson to me is someone that might turn into that kind of Defensemen. He's certainly a throwback player, which I like.

Corey had a rough start - no doubt. But we've seen that before and what's more important is that we've seen him lock it down and play very well after a stinker. Luckily for the Hawks Darling came in and kept the Hawks in the series before CC took over and drove home.

The Hawks were a very good defensive team so as is always the case the goalies statistics shouldn't be looked at apart from the overall play of the team in front of him, but SV% is the best goalie stat we have at our disposal, so CC really stood up very well against his competition:

Crawford playoff SV% = 0.924
Rinne = 0.907
Dubnyk = 0.908
Andersen = 0.913
Bishop = 0.921

So if the question is which player would I add to the Hawks if I could pick any player in the NHL - it depends. If this is for 1 season, then I take Crosby because I think he is still the best player. If it's to add a player for long term, then it would come down to between Hedman if I decided I needed to bolster my d-corps or McDavid because I think he will supplant Crosby as the best player within the next few years.

Yikes. This adds up to 82 million. 10 over the cap. It doesn't even show a second 10 million $ contract. How are you supposed to keep the talent? Geez.
