FYI... Hawks resign Nordstrom.
- Al

Does anyone really care? Or like this guy in the Indianhead?
Doesn't appear to know where to be on the ice.
Skates pretty fast.
Misses on most of the hit attempts.
Has hands of stone.
And surely does not make a single player better on the ice with him.

I, for one, hope this is a 2 way deal and he never sees UC ice.

Compare him with Desi. Or with Kruger (who showed improvement every year).

Talk about meh.
I think they found Nordstrom's pic in the Webster's next to the word.

lol...nice rant. I actually don't mind Nordstrom as a 13th forward.

Hopefully Baun and a few others get a shot, so far not thrilled with potential line ups without any of those kids in there. Still feel there will be a surprise or 2 before camp

I'm with you on this. No big deal either way, but I think he has more value than he has shown playing a couple games here and a couple games there. He was a good 4th line center/penalty killer when he played in Sweden so I think he has the ability to be a kruger "lite". Hopefully this doesn't mean Kruger is not going to be re-signed.

The team always has the power, because they can simply bench or bury the player as leverage to force a waiver of the clause.
- Sandus

That's not true at all and there are plenty of recent examples (SJS) where teams aren't going to bench/bury a highly paid/productive player with a NMC regardless of how much they want him gone.

Interesting and brief opinion piece by Morrissey (the sun times reporter, not the guy from The Smiths) that is sort of a counterpoint to the piece by Lazarus (the sun times reporter and not the biblical dead and then not dead guy) here:

Can't stand nordstrom the Swedish mccboyle brother. Doesn't bring anything to the 4th line can't hit can't fight doesn't get his nose dirty or agitate. He's a career minor leaguer.

Hey Savvy, while I inderstand Nordy is probably a career 3-4th liner at best. He has done nothing to embarass himself when called upon. Glad he got inked.

Its kinda funny what I read here this off season, I have the opportunity to find myself in the company of a few current rostered players. And while I am only an acquaintance/neighbor not a "friend" I can tell you one thing about each "person" I have the honor of meeting in the organization. They have each others back even the Rockford guys (Oh they have a healthy competition beacause this is their job). Whether it be the current situation or injury the Hawks definitely have a family-type attitude. We "as fans" see it on the ice, how they rally together. Sometimes "as fans" it is easy to take a shot but I can tell you to a man, the team (which includes the pros in Rockford) are happy he has a contract. If it helps motivate a Bickell, Desi, Versteeg. I hope he causes some night sweats in camp.

5 weeks, its almost over.

Guessing its veteran depth in case some the younger guys (Baun, Ross, McNeil etc) struggle to fill holes. The Bickell deal has to go anytime now unless the Hawks have the suspension/cap relief issue ready to go for 88.

Hey Cup, nice to have a little actual hockey conversation, right?
Agree on the Blackhawk "family" aspect, have some insight myself and think that's pretty accurate.

I just don't see Nordstrom as any more than 4th liner if that -- and others in that role just seem to bring much more to the table. I suppose he's an OK fill but I'd say Baun showed more in his 2 games (tough, strong and strong on his skates, nose for the puck and not afraid to go to tough areas and mix things up) than Nordstrom's entire time up with the big club.

Oh, 5 more weeks seems an eternity doesn't it. I doubt any of us really enjoyed this CUP summer as we should have with the antics that have played out on public stage. I can only feel bad for the rest of the team, you'd have to think it really took the edge off for them and brought lots of uncertainty with.

Hey Savvy, hope your summer has gone well...

I'm a fan of Desi...and I'd like to see Baun get a shot over Nordy...though there was one point in the season last year where Nordstrom led the team in hits with having played only something like 8 games to that point...

Its good to have depth.

I found my self in a sporting goods store today to get some new Polarized glasses (The Pike are swarming but they spook easily, good to see them and cast away from them) point being #88 is noticably missing from the display racks, you have got to dig and even then they are scarce.

Joakim Nordstrom's extension with #blackhawks is a two-way deal: $605,000 in the NHL and $67,500 in the AHL.

what a STEAL!

Gross exaggeration.

He was second on the team in hits per game at 1.92

Nobody fights anymore, hardly (thankfully).

He's a high energy player who's always flying around at top speed, going into the corners, and always getting his nose dirty.

There may not be a spot for him full time on the big team's roster, but he's a quality depth guy to have in the orginization.

Can't hit?

That is a great deal for what he brings as a 4th line / depth player and to get him on a 2 way is made of awesome.

We need to move Morin. Corey Tropp??? No?

Seems to me, just 17 seconds ago, fans were panicked that we would lose Bicks. Who brings what he brings? Just askin.
