Hi, MexicoHawk. I read your post after Al Arbour passed away and I was wondering (but forgot to ask) who did you play for?
- Hank3Henshaw

One team was the hated Northstars. Don't you remember the chants in the old barn "MexicoHawk sux, MexicoHawk sux, MexicoHawk sux" ... or was that Dino?

I prefer the verbose version - no cliff notes for me.

Mex, again, I appreciate your contribution to this site, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one - regardless that there are some naysayers among us.

Ray Donovan.. Got it.

I have a friend who worked at Majestic, late 90's. A certain Chicago Cub ran a huge tab there, and got all sorts of credit offered to him. When they came to collect, he denied everything, then he threatened the manager to put a contract on his head if the casino went public, and possessed his stuff. Regardless, within a few days, MLB had some guy who the casino could hardly find anything on had corporation and partners, and potential partners lining up putting pressure, coercing, and calling in different parties for information and cooperation. Supposedly lower management was also under the impression that this guy had dirt on ownership practices that they held over them as well. Point is, these people are out there and do this type of stuff..

Thankfully it was Dino, even as a rookie, Dino was effective at getting underneath the skin, even with his team mates...it was a LIVELY dressing room in MIN, I can assure you. Don Beaupre was a life saver with his great sense of humour. Speaking of Bowps, find some old photos of him in net and look at how small he appeared. When we practised against him guys used to joke to him "stop giving me the entire net to shoot at"...boy has the goalie equipment ever changed.

Teams have called. Nothing imminent for obvious reasons. His no-move is almost a non-issue—if they want to move him, and he is eligible to play, they can.
- John Jaeckel

Interesting that he is putting something out there that seems to contradict the Hawks. That can't improve their mood.

I'm also intrigued by the notion - repeated a few times - that they can move him even with a NTC. From what people have said, there is some kind of "bad boy" clause in there that would invalidate his NTC. I get that language could be crafted to give effect to that notion but I have trouble seeing his agent agreeing to it.

Oh, I have no doubt they're out there (especially in Chicago) - the league (and the Hawks) would be stupid not to have someone like that.

Interesting and brief opinion piece by Morrissey (the sun times reporter, not the guy from The Smiths) that is sort of a counterpoint to the piece by Lazarus (the sun times reporter and not the biblical dead and then not dead guy) here:

I thought at some point there would be specific language. However, someone pointed out to me on another site that all players are required to sign the standard player contract. That does have a conduct clause in there but it's the same that every player would sign. So I do not believe there is any specific language tailored for Kane in this circumstance, nor do I believe the Hawks had a choice in the matter of putting language in the contract.

Your're right, the SPC contains language about maintaining levels of morality, etc. kings used it to terminate Richards' contract. The suggestion made here was that provisions could be added to Kane's specific NTC giving the Hawks the right to rescind hid NTC. I just don't get how they would do that. The only approach I could see, and it would be problematic, would be to threaten to terminate unless he agreed to waive his NTC.

I suppose there could be a provision like that, but I don't see any possible way it could be active unless Kane is convicted. Otherwise it could be arbitrarily exercised by the team.

The overriding point that has been missed for the most part is a trade is the last step not the first step. When and if Kane is traded the NMC clause will be dealt with.

NTC/NMC do not prevent trades from ultimately happening except in a last season of a contract. The player may have more say as to where he goes but they don't prevent trades...And that is why they are handed out like candy at a kid's birthday party.

The team always has the power, because they can simply bench or bury the player as leverage to force a waiver of the clause.
