If I had to pick one player to really surprise this year it would be Gardiner.

I like the fact that he is a good athlete. I think they find their way and I hope he does.

I hope you're right...but I just can't see it...unless we find a GREAT stay at home D to play with him...he's lost in his own end....and their end too most of the time.

It would be nice to see Phaneuf ice time to be not more than 22 minutes per game.
Remove the "C" from him and let him run (somewhat) wild as a second pairing on the D.

at least the battle at the buffet table will be less intense with Kessel gone...

Dude, not at the buffet table.

At the (frank)ing hot dog stand!

Do they have those in Pittsburg?

Gardiner's hockey IQ is a huge liability. Who cares how well he skates when he makes at a least one bone head play a game that costs us a goal.

If he is such a great skater, maybe he should be our top line RW.

A better question in Leafs camp is which young players are they going to give NHL minutes to? Do guys like Kapanan. Nylander, Leipsi, Harrington get a real shot of do you hide them on the Marlies so your record is head enough to have a shot at Mathews? Who cares who the top line center is between those 2? Bozak is an average third liner and Kadri is at the very best an average 2nd liner but he's an underachiever.

If I had to choose the top pairing from among the choices, it's Rielly & Polak, guys that actually give a poop.
- LeafMan

there you go.

Rielly played his best hockey overall when Phanuef was out of the line up injured last season. And he did largely playing with Polak (I believe) until Polak was injured.

Rielly and Phaneuf simply means Rielly defers to Dion for everything. That sampling from early in 2015 should be indication enough that Rielly is more than capable of taking the next step... while Dion has simply lost a step.

Kessel spent the summer training and learning a proper diet with Gary Roberts. He's in the best shape of his career. I mean it's fun to be bitter and everything but it's really time to get over it. You guys sound like jilted women who got dumped for something better and they try and tell everyone that the guy had a small peeeenis.

Very doubtful you will see them this year unless there is a lot of injuries at once.

What you will see, imo, are the ones with the most AHL experience, Leivo, Carrick etc... types.

I said so as much last season, when Phaneuf came back, Rielly regressed.
