That implies that he was impressive enough to get a contract. Therefor, barring a major drop off in what he showed, he should at least be playing pretty well.
I'd rather have a fourth rd pick than.... well nothing. - markmark
I'd rather have a nickel than not have a nickel, but it doesn't mean I'm going to be wildly excited if I find a nickel lying on the street, and I certainly don't think that finding a nickel is the key to - or even a tiny part of - my future financial success. |

Setoguchi probably gets waived at training camp. - TypLeafsFan fan
He doesn't have a contract, so they don't have to waive him.
They just have to thank him for his time and wish him good luck. |

morning buddy, how goes things? - Lucas.Neilson
Good - been steadily busy, but good busy. Waiting for both hockey seasons to start...pumped...though the baby is due around the same time as my league starts so likely to miss a few games. |

You could literally cut and paste Matthias in there, or Parenteau, or Arcobello, or Spaling
The point is the same - TheThrill
For some strange reason, I'm optimistic about Matthias. I think that guy's stock will rise throughout the year. No reason why he can't work his way on the top two lines - hell, all he has to do is beat out Bozak and maybe Holland.
The other guys you mentioned?
Not worth mentioning! |

I think that him scoring 10 goals by the trade deadline is wildly optimistic.
If he does that, expect him to fetch about a 4th rounder.
If we get a fourth rounder, there's about a 12% chance that guy plays 100 or more games in the NHL, and even then, statistically speaking he will probably be a borderline NHLer.

So I don't really care whether or not we flip Setoguchi at the trade deadline. It won't make a difference to the long-term success of the Leafs. - Atomic Wedgie
yeah, but you could also flip that 4th and another 4th for a third or that 4th and a 3rd for a second or a prospect

Really?
Why doesn't he have a job now then?
Could it be because teams saw how he actually was as a player when he couldn't be propped up by Phaneuf?
Also, as a side note, can you explain how Aulie, Holzer and Kostka can all somehow play well enough alongside Phaneuf to merit top pair minutes at one point or another, but went to other teams and are now floundering in the AHL? - TheThrill
Aulie/Holzer and Kostka never looked good either..hence the reason we got rid of them |

perspective.
Us "getting rid of them" vs other teams "acquiring them"
Other teams obviously thought they were worth taking a flyer on, they didn't ascertain that from watching their junior highlights. |

Everyone says MLSE always sells hope to Leafs Nation and they buy it up. The truth is Leafs Nation buys up WHATEVER (frank)ing story MLSE puts out and they run with it with their eyes closed. Unless you're from like.... Pickering... then every year could be "the" year. |
