EJ looked like a franchise qb week 1 vs the bears last year

then the scared coach changed it up to 3 yard dinks

- homiedclown

EJ was okay against the Bears and Dolphins the first two weeks. Then, he came down to earth against San Diego, and imploded against Houston .

Manuel's preseason reminds me of Trent Edwards in 2010. He was lights out in the preseason the year after losing his job to Fitzpatrick. They ended up having to cut him in week 4.

I've thought for a while now that it would eventually end up being McCabe that gets partnered with Ristolainen as our future top pair
I think he's gonna be a good one
But it's smart to let him ease into his eventual role, like they've done with Pysyk
No need to rush these young kids
I wanna be good asap...
But I'm more concerned about being good for the next 10+ years, then I am about whether or not we make the playoffs right away

- jdfitz77

I think McCabe's ceiling is probably 3-4.

It could turn out that Risto's future d partner is Bogo, or someone that is not even here yet. I like McCabe and Pysyk as a pair.

Pysyk has played 142 games in the AHL, McCabe just 57. If they sign Franson, McCabe is destined for Rochester but will probably be the first call up. Pysyk will compete for a spot here, even with Franson on the team. If that's the plan, I don't see them rushing these kids and frankly with Bogo, Gorges, Carlo, Weber and possibly Franson, it's a vet laden d group.

They want McCabe in Rochester for at least part of the year. Once again, he will be taking Weber's spot if/when he is ready. Franson's signing does not change that.

I think Bogo is kind of like Myers in that he might be better suited to be a great second-pairing D. They both seem to lack that something that is required to play in the top pair.

So, the Bills QB play last night seems more like an indication that The Steelers D is pitiful than we have 4 good QBs.
While I'm not an EJ fan, I do have to give him credit for his play this preseason...and apparently his improvement late in camp...early on he was a mess with dropping snaps and Wild through so..seems he has reigned that in lately.
I'm in the TT camp as I think he has out produced Cassel and is much more consistent than EJ over the term of the preseason/camp. I like the fact he has worked on staying in the pocket and use his legs when needed...that is a nice balance to have.
I don't think I could stand to watch the bills win 13 - 10 week in and week out...way too boring.

They can't possibly go with Cassel over the other two (especially Tyrod). (gulp) Can they? TT showed he can make all of the "game manager" throws.

Football coaches never cease to amaze me.
I do think that was the plan going into camp, but TT showed more IMO.
I can see them going with conservative, safe football on O though.
That would just be so boring, who cares if they win to make the playoffs like that to lose in the 1st "round"

Edwards was in the league for 6 years at that point. I think you are just seeing a 3rd year player start to enter his prime.

His accuracy has been better than its ever been

Lately, his history back to college is that of inconsistency...will his accuracy now be consistent? Maybe, maybe not, don't know...could just have witnessed the "good" ebb in his ebb and flow game.
I hope he does succeed, that would be terrific for the Bills

Edwards was a rookie in 2007. It was his 4th year.

I thought he was 05 for some reason. Either way the two are completely different.

I don't take too much from preseason, but if we are going to talk about TT, then it's only fair to make a case for EJ as well. The separation is almost nonexistent between the two.

What's going to kill EJ, is that he's the only guy Rex didn't bring in himself

I really wouldn't be shocked if Cassell gets cuts and Rex keeps Sims as the 3rd QB.

It saves cap space and from what I saw if McKelvin doesn't get healthy soon there is a need for a CB as Darby isn't ready yet.

There will be a few surprise cuts from every team so if a good veteran CB gets cut and I'm Whaley I'm calling right away.

I do feel a little better about our QB situation as long as EJ or Tyrod is named the starter. Taylor made good throws from the pocket and only took off running once (he scored). EJ was making big league throws last night. His only incomplete was a pass we would all want him to make but I think it got tipped at the line. It's funny what a real OC can do for a young QB...

TT should be the starter. I'll admit I'm not a fan of EJ... But he played very well so far this preseason. We can't play it safe. Safe doesn't win you the superbowl. I don't wanna watch Cassell throw 5 yard passes all game and have us depend on the D to keep other teams below 14pts every game.

#1 TT
#2 EJ
#3 MC

Don't cut cassell because TT could very well get hurt and EJ could very well come in and play like he did against the Texans.

Where did I say in my previous post did I say anything about McCabe taking Weber's spot? And where did I say anything in that post about Franson taking a job from McCabe? I agree that McCabe will probably start the year in Rochester if they sign Franson. This I understand. Your reading comprehension is awful. You want Franson, I don't. We'll agree to disagree. I have my opinion and you have your's.

Last night 39 reported that TT was in fact the starter. We all know he has solid connections to the Sabres - maybe it goes deeper than just the hockey team.
