ISO: Trout
BABIP: Trout
wOBA: Trout
wRC+: Trout
Off: Trout
Trout has the lead in advanced offensive stats pretty much across the board. As I mentioned earlier though if the Angels miss the playoffs he's pretty much screwed though. He'd have to jump ahead by a mile to beat Donaldson if that happened and that isn't looking likely.

Read that if you're curious what those all mean. you can click on the individual terms for an even more in depth look at them.

Do you think the voters are taking these into account more than traditional stats?
trout won it last year with a similar type of year (probably a few more HR this year, less RBI) but the runner up only had 32hr/103RBI (.335avg though).
If Donaldson keeps at this pace, .302AVG,44HR,130RBI, 124 runs... he is gonna win

That'd be a fun one to look up. I'll check out where the MVP's have ranked in WAR over the last few years. It'll take me a few minutes |

2014
AL MVP: Trout 1st in WAR (in his league and among hitters)
NL MVP: Kershaw 1st in WAR (in his league and among pitchers)
2013
AL MVP: Cabrera 3rd in WAR (Trout robbed)
NL MVP: McCutchen 1st in WAR
2012
AL MVP: Cabrera 4th in WAR (Trout robbed)
NL MVP: Posey 1st in WAR
2011:
AL MVP: Verlander 1st in WAR
NL MVP: Braun 2nd in WAR
2010:
AL MVP: Hamilton 1st in WAR
NL MVP: Votto 1st in WAR
2009:
AL MVP: Mauer 2nd in WAR
NL MVP: Pujols 1st in WAR
2008:
AL MVP: Pedroia 2nd in WAR
NL MVP: Pujols 1st in WAR
---------
Voters seem to be doing a pretty good job at picking the best players in all honesty. The only bad ones were the Cabrera wins over Trout and you could blame the 2nd win on Cabrera getting the nod due to reputation and winning it the previous year.
So with Donaldson being ahead in WAR and Trout being out of the playoffs I would say you are probably right that Donaldson would win MVP if the season ended now. |
