I think the issue here isn't about salaries skyrocketing, as much as it is about overvaluing a player and his worth. Erhoff probably cares more about playing on a team that can contend, then he does about money, since he has the Buffalo buyout in his pocket. It seems as if you didn't consider that as part of the equation, when posting the above, since it's obvious what the post is attempting to do. I also think that Ehrhoff is not as good as you think he is, and therefore couldn't command a higher salary on a top team. He basically had to settle for what he could get, if he wanted to play for a top team.

You buy the possibility of it, or that there is rumors to such? It's August, I seriously doubt that any rumors discussing the teams plans for the TDL, which is 7 months away, are legitimate.

I think this misses the point. The premise I offered was if the team is in a playoff spot, is a trade of Schenn and Streit still definitely going to happen? Of course any trade is for the betterment of the team, but it certainly wouldn't be for the betterment of the team for that current season, while the team is in a playoff spot.
