Great deal for LA. CBJ must be pissed. Now Franson and then come a plethora of trade rumours for D. Or at least I hope |

Ehroff to the Kings one year 1.5 mil
Damn salaries skyrocketing - Just5
I think the issue here isn't about salaries skyrocketing, as much as it is about overvaluing a player and his worth. Erhoff probably cares more about playing on a team that can contend, then he does about money, since he has the Buffalo buyout in his pocket. It seems as if you didn't consider that as part of the equation, when posting the above, since it's obvious what the post is attempting to do. I also think that Ehrhoff is not as good as you think he is, and therefore couldn't command a higher salary on a top team. He basically had to settle for what he could get, if he wanted to play for a top team. |

You buy the possibility of it, or that there is rumors to such? It's August, I seriously doubt that any rumors discussing the teams plans for the TDL, which is 7 months away, are legitimate. - MJL
So, Hextall shouldn't be thinking about the future on this team? LOL |

I think this misses the point. The premise I offered was if the team is in a playoff spot, is a trade of Schenn and Streit still definitely going to happen? Of course any trade is for the betterment of the team, but it certainly wouldn't be for the betterment of the team for that current season, while the team is in a playoff spot. - MJL
I said Schenn would still be dealt if in a playoff spot. Streit could as well. IMO Schenn isn't a huge deal one way or another no matter the position this team is in.
Streit I still feel will be dealt too. Obviously I don't have a crystal ball so I won't say definitely. But I do think that rumor has validity to it and I wouldn't be surprised if it came to fruition. |

If a team is in a playoff spot, trading a starting defenseman, is a huge deal, unless there is another defenseman coming back, or there is another circumstance, such as a younger defenseman has already been in the lineup and is playing well. Not to mention that Schenn is a much better defenseman than some give him credit for.
I guarantee you that the "rumor" doesn't have any validity to it. Just because there is potential for something to happen, doesn't validate a rumor. A rumor has to have substance behind it, such as Hextall talking to other teams. I seriously doubt that Hextall has begun discussions with other teams on trade deadline moves. All there is, is speculation about what could happen. |

Just because you start doesn't mean you're great. Do you think Schenn would get the minutes in Chicago as he does now in Philadelphia? Just proves the defense isn't as up to part with the other teams in the league. Don't act as if losing Luke is like losing G or Jake. They lost Coburn and didn't seem to playing all that badly shortly after his departure. I don't think a potential Luke Schenn trade hinders this team as much as you think.
I am pretty sure GMs are in discussions alot more than we think regardless of the time of year. I would double Hextall is picking up the phone a shortly prior to a trade deadline to start discussing moves. Obviously not showing his hand in August, but I'm sure he keeps tabs on what teams are looking for and quite possibly keeping the lines of communication open to the other GMs. |

I think losing a starting defenseman does hinder a team. Would Hextall have traded Coburn and Timonen if the team was in a playoff spot? That's the discussion. How much losing Luke Schenn would hinder the team depends on a number of factors that we can't know now. Such as who was called up, how other players such as Gudas are playing, who is coming back in a potential trade, etc.
I think Chicago wouldn't have minded having Luke Schenn for the playoffs last season.
Keeping lines of communication open and talking to GM's is quite different than talking about moves they want to make at the deadline in August. Getting off track. There is a difference between rumors with some validity behind them, and speculation on what might happen 7 months from now. |

My memory might be fuzzy, but weren't the Flyers still crawling back close to the race with Coburn still on the team? Key players are moved all the time regardless of positioning.
Coaches think in the now. GMS think in the future. If the Flyers are sitting in 3rd place in the Metro in late February, I still wouldn't be surprised I'd Schenn is dealt. Or Streit for that matter. |

Key players aren't moved for future assets all the time, while a team is in a playoff position. I wouldn't be surprised if they're dealt either, because there is no guarantee the Flyers will be in a playoff position, around the deadline.

Erhoff likely only wants to play for a team he considers to be a contender.
