Blues and Hawks will certainly be pretty great at 3 vs 3. I would assume Backes - Tarasenko - Shattenkirk would be pretty lethal. Toews - Hossa - Keith would also be pretty tough to defend. |

Seems like every team has a supremely talented goal scorer hiding away and unable to make the NHL. You know that type of guy - 5 foot 6, 125 pounds, cant handle the rough stuff and easy to take off the puck. Despite incredible numbers in the minors, will never play at the NHL level because they are too small, or too weak, or too slow, or never discovered that there really are 2 ends to a rink, or.....
You park this guy at the end of the bench and he gets a front row seat for 60 minutes. Once 3 on 3 hits, and there is a ton of space on the ice, you throw him out there and tell him to go like hell and to enjoy 5 minutes of pickup hockey.
These are guys that wll kick butt in overtime |

Homerism aside that'll be an awesome one to watch and it should definitely be the three that go out there to start. With that said our coach will probably throw out Nielsen, Bailey, and Strait. |

So am I biased in thinking the Penguins might have the best "two' 3 on 3 lines to roll out?
Assuming Kessel goes with Malkin...
Crosby - Hornqvist - Letang
Malkin - Kessel - Maatta
2nd Pairing questionable on defensive prowess, but can any team match that firepower?

Sounds great on paper. Why bother even playing the OT.

I think he's referring to 60% of the games AFTER regulation time maybe your stat(86%) was referring to games as a whole? - Cptmjl

Speed and skill will rule 3 on 3. Tampa, Colorado, Pitts are the first that come to mind as teams that "should" rule 3 on 3.
EDIT: Obviously goaltenders will be huge in 3on3, but even moreso the ones who move great side to side will be even more key as with that much open ice cross-ice feeds will be widely used
For the Bolts the Triplets will be used by themselves as Cooper did this a few times last season with OT penalties leading to a 3 on 3. Hedman/Stamkos/Drouin? should be a 2nd line. Flip/Killorn/Stralman I would guess for 3rd OT line. All pure guesses of course |

The NHL had 44.4 percent of games tied after regulation decided in overtime this season (136 of 306) in a 4-on-4 format.

So Ek's guess of 60% could be pretty close. Any thoughts on why Ek thinks it would be less than AHL? Goalies are better? |
