Why didn't he progress from 11-12 to 12-13? Would you blame that on his most common center that season, Claude Giroux?
- Feanor

I'd have to research line combinations, but I think he only spent a little bit of time with Giroux when Hartnell was out.

I have a meeting to prep for, but will look at that later.

You thought wrong.

http://stats.hockeyanalys...ue&season=2012-13&sit=5v5

It's also the case that Read's zone starts have got harder every season:

11-12: 50.5%
12-13: 47%
13-14: 42.9%
14-15: 41.5%

Again, blaming his drop off in production on Couturier is simplistic.

Schenn was not placed in the role to which he is most suited. I'm not going to punish him for being uncomfortable playing on the wrong side of the ice and not having the puck on his stick enough to get him in the game.

This team has never committed to given him a legit shot at Center. He was given a chance in his first year, maybe year and half with inadequate wingers. Actually, a good chunk of that was with Vinnie and Schenn switching back and forth on the same line.

If everyone is so keen to point out that Couturier's production should be viewed with a grain of salt because of his age, Schenn should be given the same leeway.

- TheGreat28

Schenn's inconsistency reared it's head regardless of what position he played at. I would disagree that his best position is center. It was a short sample size, but Schenn looked really good playing on the right side.

Agreed. I'd really like to see him back on the right side. Him, Simmonds, and Voracek are ideally who I have on the right side in the top 9. However, where does that put Gagner? Do we have him play center? Do we try him at LW?

With a new coach where not much is known, I think any and all options are on the table.

Why ruin a good chemistry between Giroux and Voracek?

Agreed. Out of curiosity, where do you personally think he fits in?

I've been advocating for quite awhile to have Voracek on Couturiers wing. However, if Voracek sticks with Giroux (not the worst idea in the world, lol), I think Read-Couturier-Gagner could be a very good line.

Not exactly "ruining" it. They'd still be together on the PP. 5 on 5 I don't know that Hakstol will keep them together. I think he will at least try it in the hopes that it makes the other 3 lines that much better.

Whos to say Couturier and Voracek can't have equally as good chemistry?

I personally think Voracek has the ability to lift anyone on the team. Hes a monster.

I personally really want to see what Couturier can do with Voracek. The problem I currently have with trying to figure out a line-up is I have no idea how Hakstol will use Gagner or Schenn.

If Couturier is with Voracek and Schenn plays with Giroux, it allows for a third line of Raffl-Laughton-Simmonds, which is my ideal 3rd line.

Ditto Giroux, which is why I think seperating them 5 on 5 is the way to go.

However, that only works if we have the pieces to fill out the line-up properly after separating them. The end result has to be worth it. Can we create two better scoring lines by separating them? Do we have the personel to fill out the top 6? I think we do.

I just see Voracek as a 1st line RW. He produces like one and is paid like one. I don't think he would be happy playing less minutes.

I personally hope that Gagner can play LW, and add to the skill level there. I wouldn't split up Giroux and Voracek, simply because they're so dynamic together. However, I wouldn't be upset or label it a bad idea if they were. The idea certainly has merit.

I dont think he would see a drop in his minutes... his even strength time and PP time really wouldnt change all that much,.

That would be ideal...

Gagner-G-Voracek
Schenn-Couts-Read
Raffl-Laughton-Simmer
4th line combo

That 3rd line would be reallly tough to play against.

I'd personally put Raffl on the left side with Giroux and Voracek, and leave him there. I don't like that 3rd line at all, although I'll add the caveat, that no matter what combo you put together, there will be some issues.

Ok, that's pretty funny, and personally I'm guilty.
