He seemed to play well for Anaheim.

I would have still kept him over lovejoy.

I would have too, but it wasn't some horrible trade like Zhitnik for Coburn. They both played well for Anaheim, as so would any of our defensemen as a #6 in that system. Despres is a very nice bottom-pair defender. Some people acted like it set Pittsburgh back a decade.

It was just a weird trade. Lovejoy i think is in his 30's and Depsres is 24 i think. Just don't know what Lovejoy brought that Despres couldn't do. Rather have the young guy in this instance.

Edit: Played about 17-20 minutes a game in the playoffs. ice time went up as playoffs went on.

Handzus actually saw a lot of time between John LeClair and Mark Recchi from the end of the 04 season and entering the playoffs. With wingers like those, you should put up points.

Yeah, but he also produced with Brashear and Somik as
his wingers his first season

tbd if it is a Coburn like trade. zhitnik was still a good top 4 dman at the time. lovejoy wasn't/isn't.

despres played over 20 minutes a night in the playoffs.. don't know many bottom pairing #6 guys who do that in in the playoffs.

Handzus in my opinion is the best player on that line you just named. I'll even go as far as saying Donald Brashear could play the game and was better than Somik.

When I think of Somik, I think of "tough guy" Chris Neil. Neil is a tough guy who doesn't fight tough guys.

When I think of Somik, I think of a guy whose eye brows look as if they are about to become sentient at any moment:

Somik was one of the only players to show up for Philadelphia in the playoffs when they were embarrassed out of the 1st round by the Senators.

I am going to give myself a little pat on the ass here.

Years ago I said Couturier and Handzus were a good comparison. There was such outrage I tell you. Outrage!

I would be happy if Laughton could become Zeus/otto and Cout more primeau like.

How about he's just Scott Laughton

Despres is a young player, just getting better. Lovejoy is pretty much what he is at this point, a career 5-6 bubble guy

I remember reading Crosby basically told them to trade for Lovejoy.
