Flyers fans hate the shootout and yet look at this as a GREAT moment in Flyers history. Detroit to me is the worst. Love it when they are scoring. Hate it when they aren't. TJ Oshie is the next coming of Captain America because of the shootout in the Olympics. Toews put up a pretty good preference with Cary Price making the stops he needed to.

Don't mind the shootout. We just need to recognize our weakness and improve at it.

PS, Holmgren brought up Steve Mason also. I don't believe Mason was named as one of Holmgren's successes.

That's what makes it so great. The Rangers knew we weren't good at the shootout and played OT to get to it. The fact that we turned the tables on those horrible people is what makes it even better.

Edit: I still hate the shootout. Horrible way to determine a playoff spot by having a best-of-3 breakaway contest.

After Versus (renamed "NBC Sports" since) released the Danny Briere commercial I posted above, there was joking here about him doing commercials locally. bradleyc4 lives out in Amish country, so someone made a comment about Briere doing Amish Cable commercials (as if a thing existed, heh). Number23 then posted this picture of Amish men talking with a caption:



"Tell the English ye shall arrive between the hours of 10 & 2..."

He then added Danny Briere's face to the man on the right and gave me my avatar.

What Washington put together to get Oshie, Philly could have done the same and Oshie is automatically in talks of being apart of the core. Oshie would automatically be in the mix with Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds and Mason right now and moving forward for at least the next 5 years. Replace Troy Brrouwer with Matt Read's name and whatever picks Washington gave up.

Just that Brouwer and Simmonds are similar players - power forwards and strong on the PP. We certainly would not have had to sweeten the pot like Washington did, but I could see StL wanting Simmonds more than Read.

If you offered Simmonds straight up for Oshie, the Caps say yes faster than a fat guy at a buffet. Oshie's probably not as good as Simmonds, is older and costs more.

The shootout, much as I hate it, is still a part of the game, but with 3 on 3 OT dawning, I think it's going to be a good deal less of a factor. I think that the Flyers may well be one of the better teams at 3 on 3, TBH, with Giroux and Voracek out there and the ability to ice Streit or Del Zotto or maybe even Medvedev as the D man
