It's because unlike boxing, as soon as someone gets knocked down the ref jumps in to save the fighter and stops the fight. There's no standing 8 counts, you get knocked down and are helpless, the fight's over. In boxing, you can literally be out on your feet and as long as you can answer the ref and keep your hands up in a fighting pose, the fight'll continue.

Thats exactly right. And their concusion protocol too. So why the nhl? Because theres such pressure to come back sooner.
Dana white keeps an eye on fighters, a few times you get your bell rung and you dont any more fights untill you show you are truly ready. If a guys finished you wont recieve another fight from dana white. He knows when to cut it off..

borks out a bit in Chrome (see screenshot link below) and not quite as bad in Microsoft Edge. No idea about the formatting he refers to for the fix - but I guess its funner to point and laugh. http://imgur.com/HJ3Vcd4/

with images you can do stuff like [img=100x50] to resize smaller, probably the same stands for embedded video, but have no idea how.
