That hit on lindros was pure elbow and Kariyas was soooo late. Its a shame. Lindros could have had a much longer career.

I dont blame Stevens though. That was the game back then. If you could get away with it, you'll do it.

A lot different game these days.

- vancity787

I know I took advantage back in day. I had guys carried off pretty much each game. Sometimes more than 1. And im a nice guy.....till I hit the ice. Jekyl and hyde.

Goes to show if you can do it people will.

I think hockey needs to change their penalty system to a system which reflects fitting punishment for the crime. I picked my penalties. I ONLY ever sat for 2 kinds.....charging and cross checking, but it was over and over. Never once did I chip the puck overnthe glass, or hold a broken stick or anything stupid which can get you a 2 min sit down. No I took teeth out when I decided to sit for 2.

Which is the problem right there..... why is it the same 2 min if i chipped it over the glass or if I erased a guys face or fractured some ribs? You change that and the game will get cleaned up.

Winning your fight is not as important as showing up. Sure... You don't want to get beat down, but if you don't show up and make the guy work... The other team knows they are not going to be held accountable.

At least show up... and answer the damn bell.

- rugdnit

I have mad respect for the guy...but your fighter has to win one once in awhile. That being said, I'm glad we resigned him as he is great leader, gritty and can play a bit of hockey as well

I really like Dorsett, great teammate and tough as nails....but he doesn't win fights
- CanuckDon

The Cancks record when he fights was also pretty bad.

To put a little wood on the fire though Brad Watson is not one of my hated Refs. I actually like his style at times. He is not malicious but does make a bad call from time to time.

I think I heard the same stat quoted on the radio...

I am a white man in my mid 40's living in Canada. I think it is more common to be arrested in the states than in Canada for black folks, but it is still common here. I am seldom ever stopped by the police. The times I most remember being pulled over is when I have a friend in the car who just happens to be black... Have never received a ticket when being pulled over with friends in the car, cops just want to find out who the black guy is....

Are NFL players breaking the law when they are being arrested? Some definitely, all of them, I don't know. Were they all charged and found guilty? Unlikely. But the USA has more people in jail per capita than any other country, or is it just more people in jail than any other country in the world?

If some of these people have money now and never had it before, you are bound to see some excess. Can't imagine what it must be like to grow up in poverty, see the better life and treatment of those that have money and influence and then you get the money and think you are untouchable on top of the world. All compounded by fan and media worship.

I'm white and grew up in poor neighborhoods in Toronto. The cops picked on the whites there and all the colors... they just had no respect for the poor. There was racists and there always will be but I think it's more about poopting on the poor.

I don't dispute the mistreatment of the poor. It just seemed whenever I have had some of my friends in the car, I am getting pulled over. Just me, never.

So last time I'm driving with my buddy in the car, we used to play with matchbox cars in the dirt before we were school age, and a cop pulls us over. Cop comes up to the car and asks my buddy in the passenger seat for ID before he even says a word to me. Cop goes back to his car to run my buddy's id, and then he comes back to the car and I ask him why we were pulled over, "you weren't wearing your seatbelt right?", we had our seatbelts on the whole time. just bs'ing.

Cop wasn't even going to ask for my id until I started asking him questions. I don't trust too many of them.

Sweet gym selfie, pipes...

ahhhh I miss the good old days of guys getting hit in the face when they're not looking....

those are plain hard to watch.

you want to see guys knocked out cold, watch the ufc.... at least the guy trying to kill them looks them in the face while they're doing it...

And the ufc is tough on concusions. Not one fighter is known to have retired from hits to the head unlike boxing, football, hockey. Tells you there is something seriously wrong with the nhl

That is in no way shape or form contradictory. The nhl needs to get its act together w concusions. Ufc has its act together.
And I also miss rough hard hitting hockey. So what? Its exciting. The sad part is sometimes people get hurt. Its probably a thing of the past now in all reality.
Doesnt mean the nhl isnt behind the entire sporting world except maybe boxing and needs to get its crap together.

It's because unlike boxing, as soon as someone gets knocked down the ref jumps in to save the fighter and stops the fight. There's no standing 8 counts, you get knocked down and are helpless, the fight's over. In boxing, you can literally be out on your feet and as long as you can answer the ref and keep your hands up in a fighting pose, the fight'll continue.

People underestimate how much hate there is going to be from the refs towards Prust. Add that to Burrows and Auger-gate and we are going to be short handed all the time or getting hacked.

Too bad because the kids are going to pay a high price physically.

Fighters get knocked silly a lot though.....and often with 1 big knock out they don't come back - they lose, then they lose some more....Makes me wonder if it is more than psychological. GSP was one of the only ones to get knocked silly (lost) and then come roaring back. But he did change his style too. How many times did chuck get knocked silly, Wanderlei Silva, Forest griffin, Bonner.

UFC is cleaning itself up, in more ways than one, but it is certainly not a poster child for athlete health management. I fully respect their adoption of change, but they are not too long ago ignoring a lot of obvious issues.
