Giroux/Voracek/Raffl

Abandon defense and go for the 15-second win.

I could see them using three forwards for OZ draws and two dmen for DZ draws, and then changing on the fly.

Agreed.

Also, it's not like Schenn is horrible with the puck. Sure he could get better with it, but when he keeps it simple and he's on his game, he actually has an underrated first pass.

- VladDrag

My biggest thing with Luke is his puck retrievals. When he is able to get set, he's okay; not great, but okay. But when he's being pressured on retrieving a corner dump, you'd best have the remote in your hand in preparation to throw it at the TV/out the window/etc. (depending on your preference).

Absolutely -- I could swallow a bit more of his failings if his pick retrieval wasn't substandard

So I was out drinking with an old Buddy from high school on saturday and hes set to be Notre dame's captain next season (supposedly). Anyways he never entered any NHL entry drafts but he's talked to 3 teams this summer about some type of free agent "try out" contract for next summer. LA, nsh, and philly are the 3 teams he's actually talked to. Just thought it was (frank)ing cool that philly was talking to him.

Interesting, I would think a collegiate athlete talking to professional teams while still playing in college would be a no-no with the funky NCAA rules.

I don't see Luke Schenn's puck retrival or puck handling as a big issue. I see his coverage mistakes and positioning, as his biggest area of inconsistency. He get's caught flat footed and off his angles too much.

I think the 3 on 3 line up will really depend on the zone start. I could see a 2 D / 1 F for DZ starts and 2 F or even 3 F for OZ starts. Knowing this group, I would try to win as many games pre-shootout as possible.

I think Mason's puck handling will help here too. Although, I don't see a lot of dump & chase in OT, he can move the puck up the ice quickly on an opposing poor line change.

I think there will be a lot more faceoffs with this format. With only 3 players, that's a lot more potential icings on slightly misfired passes. So you'll see a lot of offensive/defensive zone faceoffs than we're used to.

I think a lot of people dismissed Gudas, but looking at the numbers, he was a pretty solid contributor to a 100+ point Lightning team in 2013-14 and didn't play poorly last season before the injuries.

Biggest concern with him is disciplined play. He likes to hit. A lot. That's not bad, but it can also leads to positioning issues and blown coverages. The other concern is Gudas takes a lot of obstruction penalties.

Despite those rough edges, Gudas should be able to be a cheap, effective player for the Flyers.

- Jsaquella

Yeah, Gudas is gonna take some ppl by surprise.

IMO, the big advantage he has is that despite his various limitations, he's a set-it-and-forget-it type of player -- something that coaches love.

I'm excited for gudas. He'll add some more physicality which this team needs.

He's not a guy that's going to be able to make the nifty play to juke a forward and create space either on a retrieval or in the ozone. Hes cut down on his little pirhoutte move in the ozone because it is extremely risky. I'll give him credit for that. I agree It's tough to trust him in tight spaces

If he can cut down on his obstruction penalties and his foot speed can improve, I'd be good with him.

Wouldn't mind seeing Straka get a top 6 call-up chance assuming he kills it in LHV. Could use the speed/hands in the top 9 for sure.

e Czech defenseman said he got along well with his new teammates after coming from Tampa and is champing at the bit to get out on the ice with them in earnest.

Ah yes, I, too, love the correct usage of the idiom.

And for those having trouble with quoting from page 1, I know it isn't ideal, but if you wait until there's a page 2, you can click to it, then come back to page 1 and the quoting will work. I'll let EO know it's still happening.

According to Bill, Straka is at a make or break period in his career, and the Flyers aren't very high on him currently.

Medvedev is the wild card. How is he going to adjust to the NA game. Which Schenn is going to show up, at his best, he's passable as a #4, when he's inconsistent, which is often, better suited to the 3rd pair.

I keep forgetting about Medvedev but injuries also seem to be a given.

I understand all that. You can swap out Cousins perhaps in that role of a top9 call-up stop gap; re: injuries

Amazing that the nhl has no disciplinary policy towards incidents like Stoll and ROR. What if Kane is guilty of rape and Chicago somehow decides to keep him. No suspension for Kane?! That'll be the ultimate litmus test. (Not like Chicago wouldn't terminate)

According to a bunch of writers on twitter, the NHLPA has finally ponied up and filed a grievance on behalf of Mike Richards.
