I think our d were scoring a bit more back then, I miss Salo.

If his shot was accurate the guy would have been a HOF. That thing was a bomb.

I don't hate Higgins. It is a little unfair, him often being the whipping boy of many (me included) on here, he is played in that second line winger spot when he is really a third liner.

I wish him success as long as he is a Canuck, but often want him moved just so WD doesn't have that option to use him on the 2nd line or 2nd pp, at least not both all the time.

Is there a category for most often injured player ? Poor guy should have been an accountant or something in a cubical ...although he would just end up with daily paper cuts and carpal tunnel syndrome

Ya I miss that D core. Salo was great cuz he is a huge body, gets into dirty areas and refuses to sacrifice hard nosed play or getting in front of shots. Old school player....awesome. we have never been the same since we lost him.

Not aure if he could still perform these days but last I heard he was unsigned. Be interesting to potentially see him as a camp tryout for a minimum contract. If it happened you could mainly just give him pp minutes w edler or shut down assignments.

Probably never happen but hey w 0% hockey this is all we have

iirc, there was a segment on sportsnet when the Canucks were in Tampa and the Swedes got together for breakfast or brunch with Salo and Ohlund. Salo looked retired, but will get a little nostalgic and say I'd take him back. Maybe then trade one of our d for a prospect or pick to make room.

Ruptured his Achilles while off season training and still came back. Quality player.

These injuries may not prove durability, but to go through all the rehabs and keep coming back has to say something about his resiliency and character.

Hed had wrist surgery and was recovering. There was no contract. I think with his fearless approach to the game hed make a good D coach at some point.

I will never forget him throwing himself in front of shots and taking a slap shot to the face that caved it in requiring surgery. Guy still never shied away from shotblocking. He was a good one.

Or him taking that slapshot to the testicle. He still played 2 days later w a testicle the size of a grapefruit. If only all players were like that.

We have never been the same since we lost him. May have been the best D van ever had.....ever.

I haven't watched enough Canucks games prior to '94 to comment. Ohlund also really laid it on the line for the team. Always scored timely goals too.

Ohlund wasn't much of a fighter either but went with Iginla a couple of times. respect.

Ya ohlund salo jovo.....west coast express.....the good old days. Sedins were 2nd line.

Maybe the greatest team in canuck history from a cast perspective

I think we are the only two that don't mind Sbisa...I believe he will earn his contract. He has all the physical tools and the coaching staff should be able to mold him into a reliable, physcal dman

Who knows what he will achieve but I hope so. Lets put some faith into him and hope it happens.

As for the D coach doing anything......no I dont think so. Our D last season was a trainwreck and D ckach did f*** all to change that. Not sure how the guy still has a job

That being said if the shot got blocked usually ehrhoff would just step our of the way and let the guy get a breakaway with no effort to catch him. Salo probably figured if you're man enough to block my shots......
- Bieksa#3

Right on both counts. Ehrhoff was productive but massive liability. Salo missed the net a bit but my god what a bomb

Is there any consensus on whether or not forwards should jump, when screening the front of the net like Daniel, to avoid getting hit by the point shot?
- hillbillydeluxe

There is no need to jump if you are positioned properly. Burrows does this very well.

I also like Sbisa, hes 25 so has room to grow with a better partner, because i dont think any of our D prospects aside Pedan and Corrado can crack the lineup for a few years i wouldnt mind getting Luke Schenn on a cheap contract for toughness, just like a two year until young ones are ready.

Best D is a tie between Ohlund (for longevity/stats) and Paul Reinhart (best PMD we ever had), Lumme is up there too.

You could argue the 2011 team was as well and neither would be wrong. That team was unreal. Not many teams dominate all season long like they did. Best offensive team, best defensive team, best special teams. Winners of the glorious President's Trophy. They just got banged up and lacked the backbone to get that one last win.

Tryamkin is pretty good. Im sure we could make the team in 2016. This guy can be our next franchise player.

Lumme was so fun to watch....incredible moves to rush in from a complete standstill. Ive not seen anyone do it in hockey since that.

I dont recal reinhart.

Still I feel salo was under appreciated in this market.

First time you've said something not laced with douchery and condescension on Carols forum.

Well said I really thought we had it that year. I think we only had 15 or 18 losses the entire year or something like that...unreal
