I absolutely loved DirecTV when I had it. The problem was that it just got too expensive. The NHL Network was on the 2nd highest tier (I believe) and I just didn't want to drop that kind of money on it.

I ended up going with TWC because I could get a CableCard and run it through Windows Media Center (instead of leasing a box). I save money, but I am getting what I pay for: an inferior product.

Thanks cab and Buff fan19. I have TWC and am getting sick of the cost for the service, no value for what I use it for. I'm keeping their internet service, just wanted a better product for the tv package for the cost.

If there were no such thing as local blackouts for Center Ice, I would drop cable altogether.

If Fios was in my neighborhood, I would have got it. Unfortunately, they've stopped expanding altogether.

I wish Google Fiber would have come here.

How often do you have to reset your router with Fios? I find that I have to do it every four or five days now.

Time Warner are crooks and their call centers suck. Never renew by phone. If you have a local cable office, go there and negotiate with them first, then decide. I went with my friend and the employee said never call the call centers. They are badly trained and don't know what they are doing. He got rid of all these weird charges she got and said they have a billing system that automatically does that. Then he matched Direct TV's offer with triple play.

I just clear history and cookies and restart the computer. I have a Mac and no antivirus and sometimes spyware etc. will slow everything down.

I thought Fios was getting out of WNY altogether. TV, internet, phone service, the works. Maybe I'm wrong on that.

A couple of weeks ago Jimmy Fallon did a skit on Time Warner customer service.

The only reason I have cable any more is because of my hockey addiction. If I could get all the same coverage by just purchasing Game Center, I'd be all over it.

I used to work in the Call Center. It's not that people are badly trained. It's that they're not allowed to offer the same things as the cable offices are, which is stupid IMO.

Since you left, didn't they fire a lot of the experienced people? My friend is a snowbird and when she comes back from Florida they throw a $250 bill at her and she still got her regular bill. The guy at the office knocked off $100. Now they want her to pay $250 with no movies just a step up from basic. She called Sattelite Solutions for Direct TV and pays $131 with movies. When we returned her equipment the office offered her $89 or $131 for what she gets now.

It's a call center. The turnover rate is always high. All of those places are like that for the most part. My friend works in Work Force over there and he's always telling me about the stupid things people do. But the Store reps do the same dumb poop.

The problem is all these companies don't care about the issues people are having. They're more worried about their reps upselling to make them more money.

In general though, the cost of cable/satellite is so high because of the ridiculous amount that the providers have to pay to the actual networks. It costs TWC $4.25 per subscriber just for ESPN. And since ESPN is included in everything but the most Basic package, that's a lot of subscribers.
