I could get behind a Nino for Brayden deal. Earlier in the summer, before he re-signed with Zona, I was hoping to see some sort of deal involving Schenn for Boedker. Im a big fan of his game, and much like Schenn, I don't quite think we have seen his ceiling yet.

I thought about boedker too. Dunno what his value is across the league. Schenn ability to play center makes him in my eyes substantially more valuable. 23 years old 48 points last year. I mean I really think we could get a lot for him. Even the guys we've shown I feel like we could get more for him. We're not selling low like hexy fid with jvr. Someone is paying for potential.

I agree, I think Brayden has a lot more to give then we have seen and I certainly don't think we need to sell low on him. However, if there was a deal to be made involving Schenn for a comparable natural LW I'd be listening.

I wonder what a line of Schenn - Couturier - Gagner would do.
Could get interesting next summer if neither Schenn nor Gagner have been re-signed by then.

Going back to the BSchenn discussion from the last thread. This is the type of return I'd want if we were trading him.

I view the idea of trading Brayden Schenn right now laughable. Brayden is on the last year of his current deal, which means motivation to have a break out season. At the same time, the Flyers have to do right by him and place him in one position and in a position to succeed. It's really this simple. Should Brayden Schenn start the season the way he ended the last, he could be signed by mid season.

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Schenn
Umberger-Gagner-Simmonds
Vandevelde-Bellemare-White

Schultz-Streit
MacDonald-Schenn
Zel Zotto-Gudas

Vinny sits, Laughton starts season in the AHL.

Final Answer.

Agreed, that 3rd line would be a defensive/possession train wreck.

So we're making Simmonds completely ineffective at ES? Why not just bench him if we're going to roll with that?

Personally, I'd start Laughton at the 3C spot between Simmonds and Gagner, and let Umberger/VdV slug it out for the 12th spot.

So Umberger, Richards and Lupul were an ineffective third line? Read, Couturier and Schenn were an ineffective third line last season? There are plenty of productive third lines out there.

Umberger Richards and Lupul was a good third line in 2008. Back then, Umberger was 7 years younger and is a far less effective player today. Gagner is a fairly productive player, but he hasn't produced, at any time in his career, at the levels Richards was producing during those seasons. Gagner is also nowhere near as good a two way player as Richards was at the time. Simmonds is a good player, but he's not a guy who can really carry a line at ES and he's a mediocre defensive player.

By the time it was formed, due to injuries, the Read-Couturier-Schenn line was pretty much the second line. It was the first real opportunity Couturier had at balanced usage over the course of the entire season. I'd be more worried about a line of Umberger, Gagner & Simmonds would get stuck in it's own end a lot, and be ineffective if an opposing team managed to get a good offensive line out against it.
