I agree about trading the Vets, but NB was not good enough to be part of the future.

And that's why I'd deal him.

For sure, but to me the best way to speed up a rebuild is to trade some vets for picks/prospects. Bonino is a solid center and very affordable.
- Nucker101

Another way to speed up a rebuild is to have some quality vets around to help mentor the youth you're bringing in. I don't know enough about Sutter's leadership abilities to say for sure that's what JB is thinking but I imagine that WD also had some input.

Look at the mess Edmonton became because they didn't have those vets around.

When Malkin or Sid were injured.......the guys that carry their respective lines.
- golfingsince

Absolutely, but the drop off is massive so there is no justifiable reason Sutter should be a 2C. He played with Malkin and Dupuis on his wings briefly and wasn't effective.

Good deal, which is what you expect with a non-established RFA.

I could see Sutter being a Horcoff guy for us, mentor the kids and provide leadership...

PG. I don't give it up that easily.

I went into Hobson lake a few weeks ago and got rained in then trapped in the woods by a big fallen tree. Nothing but bad luck when I fish the PG area.

Shut up Penguins fan, the Canuck fan clearly know more than you.

You seem to have more in common with the trolls that come here.

He's not being brought in to be a 2C long term. Bonino isn't a 2C neither.

Are you saying that Benning is going to give Sutter a 6 year 33 mil contract?

I think we will know the answer to that once Benning has signed him to an extension.

I hope not.

My guess is 4 years 18 million.

3 year at 6 million? Then yes I think he will be our 2nd line C for the next 3 years.....Doesn't Miller set the precedent ?

What have you seen from Benning that even remotely suggests that ?

Once again Nucker, you need to at least think about directive from ownership. Do you really think he wants the team to tank in a fickle market ?

Yes. A goalie sets the precedent on a forward's contract. Well done.

This is the exact thinking that got the Leafs/Flames in trouble. It's incredibly difficult to rebuild on the fly, especially with bad asset/contract management.

I actually think Aquilini deserves more hate.

Now Bonino is a solid center. Jeeze, even the laughed at Hodgson has had more offense than Bonino in the last few years and Cody Hodgson has more hits than him per season. Now that is a real laugh.

Solid as a soup sandwich.
