Trading Buff to upgrade at other positions I could see happening. But what does Franson have to do with any of it? Myers and Trouba on the right side already make Buff expendable, at least from a positional standpoint. That's the whole reason why there's so much talk of the Jets moving him this offseason. Why bring in Franson to also be expendable and an overpaid 3rd pairing guy? If they're going to move Buff they should be looking at bringing in a solid left-side D in the deal, not moving him and signing another excess right side free agent.

I admire your admiration for Byfuglien! Looking forward to having a beer with you one day

However like Ladd, Byfuglien plays a hard game. Both were injured during the season, with Byfuglien having a dislocated rib. Byfuglien is very marketable and could fetch the Jets a nice return.

If there was a position called rover in hockey, Byfuglien would definitely be my guy. I think with the Jets already having Trouba and Myers on the right side with Postma/Harrison filling in on the third pairing is a solid top 3 right sided d.

If I am looking at moving Byfuglien, I am looking at a team with lots of left sided D to do a deal with.

Just my thoughts.....

He is a forward at heart!

I can't believe you guys want to run him out of town.

It's would be a Saad move for the team...

I will be picking up the tab for The Ulltimmid Jet and our wives at a classy place downtown WPG when Buff signs the long term extension.

Maybe I will ask Dusty to join us?

Proposed this in the Hawks blog... what you think?

Bickell/Versteeg/Crawford/Schmaltz

for

Byfuglien/Pavalec/Conditional Picks (Base 1 4th if WPG misses playoffs, 1 3rd if WPG makes playoffs but finishes worse than Chi, 2 3rd if WPG finishes better than Chi).

WPG gets 2 winger who can be used across the 2nd and 3rd lines. They get a substantial upgrade in net. They also get a good prospect in Schmaltz.

CHI gets Byfuglien for 1 year to help the D. some cap space this year to sign Marcus Kruger. Future cap space to extend Seabrook next offseason. A platoon goalie to battle with Darling and middle to decent picks to replace schamltz.

I think it makes sense for both sides... Thoughts?

No wonder you posted this in the Hawks blog first.
Bickel...may not pass physical. Best hockey behind him. Versteeg...decent AHL player. Crawford ...huge long term contract for an average goalie. (You got pulled in the Playoffs ?) Dont't even know the other dude.

The only thing you get with Franson is a great shot. Decent skater, doesn't read the play well, doesn't like contact and he plays D !!

Do not necessarily want to run Buff out of town. I appreciate all that he has brought to this team. On the other hand, his value is never going to be higher.

Buff is a great player to have at 5-6 miilion but reality is someone will pay him 7-8 if he hits the market and thats a huge over payment so ya, we got to move him if we can

I would hope the Jets would pass.

I see Crawford as a better than average goalie but not a star player on the Hawks. It's hard to see how good he really is when he has such a strong defence in front of him and dedicated forwards. I'm not sure he is a game chnager on his own. The other players mentioned are on their downslide and really all throughout their careers were just fillers that all teams have in their systems. Schmaltz is an unknown to me.

I think I made it pretty clear that they are not the same player. I also believe I was clear that this was about strategy and not either player. Finally I think I made it clear that other factors should be looked at aside from the data presented.

Well if you are going to give $7+ million to Ladd ( ) then you got to clear cap space. Buff is a star and will be paid like one. So go ahead and clear cap-space, bring in inferior talent, and blow your cap on a middling player with a bit of skill.

As a canuck fan I endorse this direction for the jets.

I think Buff to the Easter Conference makes the most sense to me. Give me Jeff Skinner and Carolina's 1st rd in 2016 and I will drive Buff to the airport.

- jjonah

Yeah, I could see why Carolina would wanna give up Skinner signed for 4 years and a 1st round pick, for Buff who is a UFA at the end of this season.

No spelling. He spelt "you're" incorrectly. His syntax, morphology, phonology and semantics were fine. But his spelling

Seriously? There is 0% chance the Jets take on any salary like that! We don't need your plugs to fill spots, we have a lot of young guys coming up. If the Jets wanted to have older more expensive players in those spots, I imagine that we would of kept Frolik.

In conclusion...Bickell = expensive trash, Versteeg = waste of cash...Crawford = pass!!

If the jets don't intend to sign him next year, now is the time to trade him. If they even retain some salary every wannabe contender would give up a lot for him. Return for rentals could fetch prospects and draft picks which are nice but won't help the jets improve on last year, which should be the goal for this team, they have a great core to win right now. My humble opinion.
