Lets go through the list:

Harrington... AHL
Percy.. AHL
Robidas... should retire already
Phaneuf... marginally better than Franson if at all
Marincin... needs to prove himself... could be an adequate Franson replacement actually (not really - he plays on the left side. This will be a good thing for the Leafs)
Hunwick... bottom pairing
Gardiner... has he really been better than Franson? no.
Rielly... yes. Better and needs ice time to develop so he should be given it regardless of whether he is better than Phaneuf or not.
Polak... ... 4-6 defenseman

Some of those guys would have to be moved to make room. I just don't see it happening. The only guys I could see being moved are gardiner or percy maybe. Luv to ditch robidas and im still confused with the hunwick signing. Would have rather had some of the younger guys like Harrington or marincin get a shot.

Depth for sure. Roster spots will open up from injuries.

I can't believe MLSE didn't offer him a big fat JML extension.
