And you have a 4 figure waiting list. Yea, tough sledding for him. Put some more Sabres logos up in the arena, bring in Pizza logs and call it a day.

yup, plus drafting 2 future hall of famers doesnt hurt either

It's not even just that. They never used to televise thr home games. He felt that if people wanted to see the team they should pay for a ticket to see it.

That was immediately changed when his son took over.

Honestly, his job with the Sabres couldn't be any easier. Hey Buffalo come buy your tickets to see Jack Eichel before its too late and your on the outside looking in.
- ImThatGuy

We all thought Ted Black was pretty "likable" for the most part, but let's be honest. It was Larry Quinn that had put the Sabres in a position where there was a waiting list for season tickets, and kept it that way even after the team essentially self-destructed after 2007. In sales and marketing, it's often the people that aren't well-liked that are the best at that kind of job.

Actually, if Russ Brandon does do well, I think you will see some bigger company names on the boards around the arena.

No, he did. Remember, this all happened in 2008 and 2009, when he did have general manager responsibilities for a short time, right before Marv Levy was hired.

Russ Brandon came to the Bills from the Florida Marlins. It's selling a product, not know the sport inside and out. As much as I hate to agree with Bucky Gleason, despite the years of ineptitude we saw from the Bills, operationally, they were pretty much a well-oiled machine. On the field was obviously a different story. The Sabres over the past 5 years or so have been dysfunctional both on and off the ice.

See, this is what I want examples on. Not that I don't believe that to be the case. I just want to see what they've been doing wrong, specifically.

Agree. I think the Bills and Sabres being under one umbrella actually brings the Sabres up a few notches as far as prestige. Then if they can win and get back to where they were a few years ago when Sports Illustrated named them the top team in terms of brand strength it will go a long way.

He has to be in tune with the team's roster plan in order to sell the product correctly.

There is always that side, but in terms of selling product to the fans, he needs to do very little.

It will be interesting to see how this works. This whole one umbrella thing sounds good, but there are going to be some relationships that might be tuned out in a couple of years. For instance, we know First Niagara has exclusive rights with the Sabres. M&T Bank, a bigger company, is in with the Bills. My guess is you will see one of those companies on the outside looking in after a couple of years.

First Niagara most likely. They are having trouble turning profits. They are far too into being a community bank IMO.

Before he came to the Bills, he was in the Marlins front office. Learning your product is part of the job.
