Oh I know, but hockey players are programmed to say all the right stuff...I hope to stay here, I would love to work out an extension, I hope we could make it work, etc etc.

When a reporter asks would you be open about returning, of course they are going to say yes, they are not going to limit themselves or portray themselves in a bad light to the media. He wasn't going to say no way (frank) that town

Nobody saw Beleskey signing for $3.8 million here either... just wait until Donny boy turns on that old Sweeney charm
- mixturebill

Or maybe people learned from the Clarkson signing, and nobody else wanted to offer a bottom 6 forward with one good season 4M.

Based on how this offseason has gone around the league and especially in Boston... I'm gonna go with that being the most likely scenario.

I think he genuinely wants back in Toronto. A town where the top players are scrutinized, plugs like him are overvalued, and he gets to play top pairing minutes.

Where else in the leauge will he get that?

I doubt Toronto wants him back unless it's on another 1 year deal. He doesn't fit in with the type of team they're building.

Still too much for him. Bottom pairing guy who puts up points on the power play. But can't be counted on to hold the point well enough to be on the top unit.

If this is true, we don't need another Krug..

I know math and statistics are frowned upon by most on this board.

But, Franson is an enigma in the stats to me.

He kinda seems to be on the verge of being a solid player OR he just may not take the next step.

Nashville was a monster in the regular season but it's D-men, including Weber who is a beast, are always negative Corsi guys. Toronto is a joke possession wise so really can use them as a barometer.

Franson is a positive Corsi Rel but only slightly, neutral between O&D zone starts, and plays the same quality of competition of Seidenberg (2 and 3 liners.)

So he is probably a pretty solid #4 right now and may have upside to become a solid 2-3 guy.

CJ has coached up some pretty good D-men so this guy could be a perfect example of a guy that Clode Vader turns into a stud.

If that's the case, then $4mil for 3 years doesn't sound like a bad deal at all... In fact that sounds like a great deal. I'm still a little timid about it though... Honestly the thing that scares me the most is we have Chara and Seidenberg locked up for 3 more years, once they're gone what does our D look like? There's nobody here to take their place. And we're definitely going to need a number 1 sooner than that. So I just worry about having a bunch of guys tying up cap space with a bunch of $4 million deals for middle pairing guys, and no room to sign a number 1.

I hear you man.

Best case senecio:
Chara returns to a Norris finalist for the next three years,
Seidenberg returns to a solid stud 1B D-man for the next three years,
out of Morrow, Miller, Miller, etc. we have a couple solid 2-4 D-men in a few years,

But then, we need to find a #1 and possibly #2 D-man somewhere.

Is THREE years enough time to develop a couple #1's.......it wasn't enough over the last few years with the high pick we had. So is it going to be different this time?

In 3 years we are going to be in a bidding war for a franchise D-man and over pay..........or we will not be "real" Cup contenders for awhile until we find one.

NO ONE wins Cups without a Norris finalists, a perennial Selke finalists and solid to elite goaltending. Fact!!! (Pitt was the last team to do it without these, but an argument could be made that they were a very unique team.)

EDIT: In your example of Franson for 3 yrs we would have Franson, Chara and Seidenberg all UFA. So we wouldnt be tied up anymore with there contracts............whether that is good or bad is up for you to decide. D-rebuild...

Unless Franson gets signed and starts to develop, making Krug expendable? That saves at least 3 million+ that Krug will want over the next couple of years that The vets are signed for and we'll be able to search for a #1 and/or have room to develop one of the young guys, with sheltered minutes on the 3rd pairing.

When the offseason first started, yes.

Now...........

We have a million kids we MUST play and see what we have. Maybe a few are solid and we have something to build on.

If we sign Franson we have ONE opening to develop and evaluate a HALF DOZEN possible future Bruins.

Chara (3yrs) - Seidenberg (3yrs)

Quaider (4 yrs) - Franson (? 3 yrs)

Krug (?) - Miller, Miller, Morrow, Arnesson, Trotman, Irwin, etc.
----------
How is that going to work for "future" development?

Bs management thinks they can win the Cup as serious contenders. That's why they seem short sighted about the younger D-men openings.

EDIT: Most of the point Ty was writing about in this article.

Valid point, but I just have the feeling they're still trying to "make a splash" to "prove" to fans that is not a rebuild. Honesty I think they might be best off trying to ride this year out with what they have and try to make that splash next off season... there's a much better free agent pool next year.

On a side note... Anyone notice Ty's picture from the podcast today? His little Google hangouts picture? He's standing there with a Stormtrooper, and a biker scout.... IN AN EDMONTON OILERS SHIRT!!! Is he really that big of a Chiarelli fan!? Or I guess maybe he's just an Edmonton fan who writes about the Bruins

Your probably right.

But that would mean that Chara and Seidenberg are another year older.

They kinda seem to be one foot in the O-chin and one foot out.

We think Chara is good enough to help with another Cup run and need to strengthen the D-core and replace Boychuck.........

OR...........we don't think we are serious contenders so we are going to develop the kids and signing a vet makes this more difficult.

I seriously bet they wish they could have a redo with the offseason.

Really? That's all I own is B's stuff... plenty of t-shirts and jerseys. I don't own any other teams merch... I guess there has been other teams jerseys that I've wanted in the past, but I've never wanted to buy other teams t-shirts... I'd rather just buy more Bruins stuff.

Yeah like I said it's sort of an issue. But NHL,AHL and Hockey East sweaters. The only things off limits are Montreal, San Jose and BC. I haven't gone anywhere near a Philly or Vancouver sweater in awhile though.

So, if the rumors are that we are trying to trade Seidenberg and then sign Franson are true..........then that probably means that they, Bs management, are banking on a Krug - McQuaid middle pairing.

Which therefore equals a long season.

IF that ends up being the second pairing I might as well check myself into the hospital and hook myself up to an IV of Wild Turkey 101.

Yeah... They really don't bother me that much. Some of their fans come off as annoying know it alls but they get theirs in the end. The Pens always seem to be too top heavy, injuries and Fluery usually catches up with them.

I really just despise the Habs. They just can't lose enough for me.

EDIT: Honourable mention to the Yankees and Patriots fans, not the Patriots, just their fans. What a mentally weak fanbase Pats fans are.
