Did not see that coming. Why would Babcock want a huge name like this as GM?

He WAS one of the best NHL GM's ever IMO. Completely different methodology than any other GM who made every one of his players buy into his system(kind of strange for a GM IMO)/team before individualism concept. Still with that said I find it to a be a little bit of a strange move. His moves the last few years have been questionable. Like you pointed out he seems to be on the down swing of his career and from every report on him(I guess speculative?)he was all set to retire. If I were a Leaf fan I wouldn't be too happy about it.

Im sensing the TOR brass is just putting names into their organization instead to sugar-coat the possible disaster that could occur w/the fanbase again.
I could be wrong... ??

Lou seemed to have a lot of trouble in the salary Cap era. Made some bad FA signings. I think Lou should have called it a career.

Yeah IDK. I worded the last post wrong. Most GM's have a system outlined for what they want as far as their team goes of course. I meant Lou's whole "team first" mentality. Someone like Kovalchuck even bought into it albeit temporarily.

And it goes back to why would Babcock want someone like Lou brought in as GM?

I think he'll make the opening night roster, yes.

When referring to Petrov...

hard to argue his resume obviously...but I think he (and david conte who was recently let go; also been there for 30+ years) have recently put together a defense which should be part of the team core within the next few years...

Has the potential to be at least. I'm a big Larrson fan.
