I think the Chara trade deserves a mention as does the Ryan Smyth trade.
- ziggy_skalica

The Ryan Smyth trade did not turn out too badly actually. The Isles made the playoffs and gave up nothing much of long-term consequence.

Either people didn't watch him or don't remember him because that guy was a one man wrecking crew. They had nobody else on that team and he still scored over 40 goals like 3 straight years. Probably the best pure goal scorer they had since Bossy.

Yup everything they gave up never amounted to anything. O'marra, Nilsson and that 1st rd pick all became busts

I agree Palffy was a beast on a terrible team. Can you imagine JT & Palffy on the same line??
- Vukota

Prime Ziggy ('95-'99) is exactly the kind of pure goal-scoring winger the Isles need right now to make them a true Cup contender.

I remember when they would play the Rangers and JD would call him baby Jagr They almost traded him to the Rangers for Sundstrom, Harvey and something else I can't remember

Palffy scored over 40 goals 3 times including 48 one year playing with facking Robert Reichel. You switch Peca & Palffy and the Isles still don't make the playoffs in the mid 90's and they still make the playoffs in the early 2000's. JT couldn't get those palffy teams into the playoffs they were terrible. I liked Peca but Palffy was a borderline superstar playing on one of the worst teams in the league year after year. In 100 drafts I would take Palffy over Peca, Jonsson & Yashin 100 times!

Robert Reichel was a beast in NHL 95. Just sayin'...

He actually had a few really good season with the flames but wasn't anywhere near a #1 center when he played with the isles, was just pointing out that Palffy basically carried that team every year with not much help

When the Fisherman jerseys came out it was a pretty exciting time to be an Islander's fan. They had a decent young core of talented players. Still had some guys from the Derailing the pens in 1993 playoffs series. Guys like Ziggy, Travis Green, Bertuzzi, McCabe, Kenny Johnson, Lachance, Kasper, and Lindros all looked like they would be fantastic players for a long time. The new jerseys to me at the time was letting the past cups go and trying to have the new kids start a new legacy. ..... Then we traded them all away for jack poop and stunk and the jerseys became a joke.

I like the logo now mainly b/c Ranger's fans hate it.. .when they see it they actually are horrified that someone would wear it. That makes me happy. (I own a hat not a jersey).

Ziggy was a pleasure to watch every game. The lone bright spot in a shtty season. (and Ken Belanger beating everyone up).

The funniest thing about it is that ugly thing was the top selling jersey for two years straight I believe.

That was an awesome jersey, I don't care what anyone says.

If Drouin is available (which I don't think so) shouldn't Snow explore this with TB..?
Could be a great LW on team....

He's still a prospect but hasn't proved anything yet.

I seem to remember they were asking the Rangers for a couple million dollars also.

Third overall pick in the draft will merit a lot and I'd pass. Tampa would have won the cup if they drafted Seth Jones instead

Griffin Reinhart is clearly a stiff. Drouin is still TBD.

And don't forget Steve Webb in the late 90s. The human wrecking ball was fun to watch.
