To be fair it would be more like the above. Not a huge difference, but still.

Well, yes, if we're using the NHL as the model. This is my fictional world where a 10-person company is signing IT personnell to multi-year contracts with low buyout rates.

That may have been what I was thinking. The Pens don't have anyone going to arbitration, do they?

Nope, don't think so, not to my knowledge

Haha, wouldn't that be interesting if things worked that way.

I think I heard it's 1-way. Will have to double check.

I think most of us would rather take the buyout route, but you do realize the buyout window for this season has closed, right?
- YouMeAndDupuis9

I was anti buyout this year as long as Scuderi isn't playing above Dumoulin. I don't want a Scuderi-related cap hit for the next four years. Now, next season, when there's hopefully better UFAs to be had and the buy out would only result in two years of a Scuderi-related cap hit, then I'll probably be game.

But were still paying $3.4M this season....so even if we buy out next year, dont forget to count this season at full price.

edit: dont have the specifics of the buyout but just using round numbers.... Scuderi buyout @ $1.5M for four years or Scuderi for one season at $3.5M + 2 seasons at $1.5. I would take the four years with minimal cap impact rather than put up with another season of a 7th defenseman eating up over $3M. Even $1.5 in savings this year could be huge.

I just don't think 1.5 in savings helps us that much this season. What would we use it on? We still can't afford Franson. Useless in regards to Fehr since we could sign him just from the savings we'd get from trading Sutter. Only way it helps is if we're looking to make a fourth line consisting totally of UFAs like Santorelli, Stempniak, Berganheim, and Glencross, which I don't think is totally intelligent because there's WBS guys who are ready. No, I'd rather forego the 1.5 in savings and eliminate a year of Scuderi cap hits.
