I'm definitely getting ready for a move, Western New York is a very nice place to raise a family, it does have its advantages. As many of you have stated, high property taxes are not one of them. We do have a solid education system, outside of Buffalo where things are really tough for the schools and the families, I've taught in Buffalo, didn't hate it but I was much more successful teaching in the Suburbs were I could relate to my students better. I tend to gravitate to the students that have potential that is being hindered our stunted for various reasons. Went to ECC to acquire my Police degree, after screwing off in high school(immaturity) I was pissed I couldn't get into Buff State or UB, so when I got to ECC I was serious about my grades, finished with a 3.9 and was one of 2 students chosen to complete a work study as a County Safety Officer, took a county exam, new the officers from my work study and became the youngest Safety Officer at North Campus ever. Transferred to Buffalo State to become an educator and after my first day in the classroom, I knew it was my calling and remains my passion to this day. Every year when I pack up my classroom I promise to retire if I'm not already thinking about how I can make my classroom environment better than it was the year before. I NEVER take on Summer School but have done a few short camps for disadvantaged youth. I've always cherished the warm weather and going to baseball games and swimming with my 4 children. Now that they are growing up and becoming young adults, I'm seriously considering a move, I just have found the past few winters to be more difficult and depressing than when I was younger. I'm definitely thinking, out West, Colorado, Washington, Arizona, Vegas, maybe California........I still have a few years to decide so my friend and I talked last night about taking two week trips to a few select locations and spending some time in some establishments, I'm definitely more of a midnight toker than a 6pack of Genny Cream Ale kind of guy. Besides family, Sports affiliation has always been a strong pull to keep me local, but with the advent of technology over the past decade, it is not such a big deal anymore.

I do apologize for the length, and lack of Hockey - Maybe I can find a Left Handed D-Man during my travels?

Just bought in Wheatfield . 2800/yr
- cabin

I'm moving there next year cabin. Building a house in spring, signed contract last week screaming deal since I'm second house on street.

Where clarence gets you is not taxes but house price. Put an offer on a house there list price 360k, offered 350k NON contingent and it went for 380k WTF! all the people that bought in Clarence 10 years ago are making out like bandits. The houses are expensive now, not taxes. That 360k house had 7k taxes, My 150k house in tonawanda I pay 5. Probably better services in tonawanda but the schools are inferior

You go to school in Alabama? had family live in Huntsville Alabama for years and that was my family vacation growing up :/. I would pay 30k in taxes to not send my kids to k-12 school in the south. I went to a class with my cousin one year They were about 3 years behind what I was learning in an avg district like ken ton

Private school is the answer to that issue. And it's less than 30K (some of them).

Read into things much?

My point is for those who agree with him, I just personally find it laughable that they think he'll even win the nomination. Not because of his views, but because of the big political machine.

I'd love to see the machine crumble, but let's be realistic - people say things and want such change all the time, yet the same people are getting re-elected all the time or the big machine cranks up and anoints the leaders and that's inevitably how things go.

Again, keeping my own political views out of this, it happens on both sides.

I agree with this ^^^^^

Well put. I admit to having an over active keyboard

Well this makes sense:

Vice President Joe Biden and Gov. Andrew Cuomo are scheduled to make a "major infrastructure announcement" in New York City on Monday, according to Cuomo's office. But no details were provided.

"Here we are...hundreds of miles away from the place that we're announcing a huge piece of news about."

It's an increase in the min wage for employees of fast food chains that have over 30 restaurants
Goes across ny state
Will be enforced in the NYC area by 2018, everywhere else by 2021
Dems actually wanted it to be $15 in NYC and $12.50 everywhere else, but Reps insisted on it being $15/hour EVERYWHERE
Makes more sense to have it staggered, BC $15 is worth a lot more in Buffalo, Syracuse, Lake Placid, etc
But anyways, that's what's happening

I love talking points...do you actually know who make up the quote unquote 40percent? A majority of them are people who work...so they do pay a payroll tax,but dont make above the federal tax rate so hence why some people agree with raising minimum wage. Just over 10 percent are elderly on SS and military disabled people, but yeah lets tax them. Also students ..oh yeah how about the hedge funds managers and investors who make their money from "capitol gains"..again this is hockeybuzz and facts have no place here.

Not so fast, with the Withholding and the fact that they get a tax refund, in fact they don't pay taxes...yes they may send them in but they get them all back...and then some more. Not talking points...do the research.
So 40 percent equals about 150,000,000 people,,,that is a lot of students, elderly, military and what not.
Right, facts don't have a place here.
But we do agree the middle class is gettin F'd ... Common ground.

- homiedclown

Planning to move to Sarasota within next 3 years.
Paying 9% in NYS Income Taxes and $17,000 in Property taxes on 2 homes is the new definition of insanity.
And my son just moved to Winter Haven ... Just an hour away!
