Peter Laviolette is 2-0 versus the Sabres in playoff series, and in both series' he has started two different goaltenders. Go figure.

game 2 he gave up 4 goals on 35 shots
game 4 he laid an egg 4 goals on 25 shots
no reason why that series shouldn't have been 3-1 sabres after 4 games instead of a split

game 5 is a 4-3 loss in OT, both teams had 26 shots

game 7 ward clearly outplayed him

I made a simple statement, he got outplayed by the cane goalies and every stat backed it up

wasn't a miller bash, til you went there

Not the first time you've bashed Miller was the reason I mentioned it.

injuries didn't keep the oilers from getting to the finals in that year

conservative coaching for games 5 and 7, piss poor special teams and average goaltending cost us the series

- homiedclown

When your starting defenceman for game 7 are Rory Fitzpatrick, Doug Janick, Jeff Jilson and Nathan Paetch... that's a pretty improbable circumstance.

The Canes were more gritty and veteran for sure but you can't tell me the outcome wouldn't have been different with Talinder in his prime, McKee, Numminen and Kalinin plus even though he sucked for most of his career Connolly was crushing it that year and would have been a huge help.

"The great ones find a way to get it done." What ended up costing the Sabres was that they, Miller included, were good, not great.

The Oilers took the Canes to game 7 with their 3rd stringer in net.

While it was definitely a string of bad luck, there was no doubt that Carolina was the more physical team in that series. The Sabres were a finesse team, and that was essentially their downfall in both 2006 and 2007.
- buffalofan19

That roster with maybe even 4 out of the top 6 original D would have beaten the Canes. Sure Canes were more physical but so was Ottawa when we played them too.

Exactly. Shows that the Canes got lucky in playing a team with 4 starting defenceman out and a 3rd stringer in goal and still had to go to two game 7's to beat both.

Sorry that was a team of destiny and without an unheard of injury list on the backend we would have been hoisting the cup that year.

Miller wasn't the problem. He also wasn't the solution.

Muckler not trading Andreychuk, Puppa, and the pick that became Kenny Jonsson for Fuhr in 93 is also one of those big if question marks.

patches and jilson were +/- 0 in game 7

janik was -1

the fill ins played good enough for that team to win IMO

hell janik got one of the goals

the better players on the sabres got outplayed by the better players on the canes, including the goalie

Seems like the Canes were the team of destiny to get a series that ended with an opponent with 4 AHL D in the lineup and then following that up in the cup finals against a 3rd string goalie.

Regardless on how they played. Only thing worth remembering is the final score. Everything else can be debated .

You mean Dave Andreychuk wouldn't have helped in the 3 ot games?

Every game was 4-3 Montreal.
