While I am not denying that abusing the system exists, I do think the majority of people on welfare really do need it. It's a little disturbing to me that we've created this mental notion that everyone we meet on welfare has the means to get off of it, but doesn't.

I also can't get on board with forced sterilization for any reason. Allow that for welfare, and you will see proponents of it for other, disturbing reasons, and it will eventually be allowed.

Every system is abused. From the top down.

IMO it doesn't work at all

make them earn the check by picking up trash/work at soup kitchens and set up job skills training

you flunk a test, no more money
you have another kid, no more money
you miss your job, no more money
miss your training, no more money

- homiedclown

For example mitt romney received almost 5million in tax breaks...do we drug test him? How many kids has he popped out? Do you suggest he should work at a soup kitchen for the tax breaks? Wasnt saying welfare worked was saying there is a form "rich" welfare as well

It would have to be a first in 2016 unprotected to get anything worth real value.

Folignos values took a nose dive this year, Larsson has minimal value.

Because households, be it one income or two, work to provide for their families not just themselves. The grandma that never worked in her life receives SS benefits because her husband paid it in, and designated them for her when he did.

Oh i know was trying to be dramatic as some other posts.

Right. We're human beings. We push the envelope, often way too far. You mitigate that be putting tighter controls in place, not eliminating it altogether, unless it doesn't provide any good whatsoever.

They really arent...if we are giving tax breaks for incentives to tje "job creators" then they should at least create jobs that people could live on above the poverty level.

How?

UFA? You are going to be paying a "Top 4 D-man" 6MM+

Trade - you are again talking about moving pieces to acquire one. So why wait?

- ImThatGuy

Because we're not a playoff team this year. Play the kids and make the big splash for a UFA d man next year, we'll have the cap space.

I laugh at the posts I see on Facebook with the Bernie Sanders love. It's fine to like what he's saying (for those who do), but to think he has a shot at winning the nomination is funny to me.

i don't have facebook or really do much on message boards other than this thing.. I also don't suround my self with Marxists..... so maybe i am a little off here, But people actually agree with what he says and re-post it? what the hell has this country come to? he is the type of person we left Europe to get away from

I don't know why we cant make welfare a system that rewards work. For example, if a welfare recipient out of work gets $750 a week, and they find a job that pays them $500 a week, why not give them a welfare supplement at $400 a week, instead of $250? It incentivizes work, and in the end saves money for the system.

I think Yandle and Goligoski are the only 2 realistic targets
- DDM-Coga

I think both Seabrook and Buff will make it to UFA as well. Doubtful the Flames pay Giordano what he wants.

I brought up the MLB "Franchise Four" thing they did last week, and I notice from the Isles new (2nd) blogger that the NY Post writer Larry Brooks has written a piece on all NHL teams' Franchise Four (the Isles blog post is cool btw, it's a "Franchise Fraud Four" - worth a read for the concept).

Without looking at what Larry Brooks wrote (2 are obvious, a 3rd pretty obvious too), who are your four? Perhaps even break it up into 2 separate groups - put that line around the early 90s, using the Aud as a cutoff point (a few years prior, since the Aud closed in 96)

If Seabrook isn't extended, I still don't think he makes it to UFA. Chicago will trade his rights for what could end up being the most lucrative trade of that type (rights trades are typically late round picks)

Teams that may be looking to unload a defenseman during the off season in no particular order:

1. Tampa Bay - Braydon Coburn (NTC), Jason Garrison (NTC), Matthew Carle (NTC)
2. Detroit - Kyle Quincey, Jakub Kindl
3. Chicago - Niklas Hjalmarsson (NTC) .. (doubt they move a Dman instead of a forward)
4. Flyers - Mark Streit (NTC), Andrew MacDonald (lol), Nick Schultz
5. St. Louis - Jay Bouwmeester (NTC), Carl Gunnarsson

Couple interesting ones for FNC. I'll wait to see if others come up.
