Gold star for what? Inheriting him, firing him, and replacing him?

Holmgren inherited, fired, and replaced Berube?

Holy crap.. B. Holtby and the Caps are pretty far off.. He is asking for $8 mil and the club was offering $5.1

Does he seriously think he is worth 8 mil?

- jak521

It's an arbitration. The team's number is lowball, while the player's is highball. The arbitrator will pick a number in between. Of course he doesn't think he's worth $8 million, but the Caps don't think he's worth only $5.1 million. Just basic negotiating at play. And until the teams walk into the room with the arbitrator, there can still be a negotiated settlement.

For anyone who will be in the Atlantic City area this weekend:

My acoustic trio and my singer's cover band will both be playing at the Chelsea Beach Bar in Atlantic City on Friday night from 6-10pm. The bar is on the beach in Atlantic City between Morris and Chelsea avenues.

Come on out, I'll be the bearded guy playing the Martin 6 string and drinking some scotch!

My bad, thought you said Hexy.

Just assumed, since you've openly criticized his coaching choice in the past. So no, Hextall only kept him for 1/2 of his tenure with the NHL, Homer hired him.

I'd do 6.25 for 3-4 years for him easy. He's worth it. While still relatively young, term is what you need to watch here. He's only really had one season of elite production. They need to be careful.

Supposedly both sides are looking at a long term deal, which is probably why Holtby is aiming for the stars with his asking price. If he's going to be there on a long term deal, he wants a fair cap it over the duration of the deal. They'll find middle ground.

- mochoson

And if he wants longer term, he'll settle, because the arbitration award can be only one or two years.

I did criticize the hire. I think mainly because I really wanted them to hire Babcock. Have more of an open mind towards it now.

They wanted to make sure they got Provorov at 9th. There would have had to be something else coming back from Columbus, even if it was, say, a 5th round pick in 2016 or 2016. But the main thing Hextall wanted was the info. Jarmo wanted some info from Hexy first but he wouldn't go for that.
- bmeltzer

Nah, I think you're mistaken on this one Bill.

The 3rd Jarmo was describing was what the Flyers would have gotten from the other team (Sharks) to move back. The rest about fishing was right... he was hoping Jarmo would tip his hand, which sometimes does happen (FLA trading 1st-overall back in '02 to the Jackets in the Nash draft, since they found out ATL was locked in on Kari Lehtonen and they'd get Jbo no matter what).

To further underscore the point, have you ever seen a team trade a 3rd for a 5th+ straight up before, even if it's in a different (better) draft? That would just be odd.

I think Alt has been the true forgotten potential NHL defenceman in the Flyers system.

Have fun brother. We're finally getting into the studio on Friday after a year of writing, and trying to find a drummer.

I think the 5th for 3rd was the "thanks for giving us the scoop" compensation trade.

The addition of Morin, Sanheim and Provorov in just over 25 months has really changed the landscape.

He (Alt) had become a solid contributor to my blueline in NHL 14 until I picked up Olli Maata in exchange for a newly-signed Jacob Markstrom. Now he's the7th defenseman and Marc Andre Bourdon is the #8.

So if that's an indication of anything, and our blueline lacks the likes of Shea Weber, Olli Maata, and Jacob Trouba, then he should be able to slide into the top-4 easily.

I do too but regardless it's a risk. Someone can make a meaningless argument that every higher is a risk but for the most part, our new Head Coach didn't work his way up through the ranks. He's going from 18 year old kids in university to millionaires. He's going from kids with potential to pros. If he's a development coach, like most developing players, I'd be more comfortable if he started in the AHL. With this said, I'm also open minded towards the higher but if Hakstol's system and approach to gain respect, it's a wasted effort at a time pretty good Coaches were available. This isn't a knock on anyone, it's a fact of this offseason.

My mistake, same difference. Flyers weren't just offering a 3rd round pick to find out who Columbus wanted.
