I think Bill misunderstood. Kekäläinen's commenting that the Flyers have a chance to pick up a third to move back, and Hextall was fishing to see who Columbus wanted.

Also, in the previous thread Jsaq mentioned that Toronto offered the 4th for all of Columbus' second round picks. I think the actual offer included Columbus' 1st round pick as well. He later mentions he'll take his chances to get his guy and have "four players" instead of one.

And if you think about it, what team wouldn't trade 3 seconds straight up for the 4th overall pick in the draft.

That's fine, I was just trying to decipher it. If there's no compensation, why in the hell would any GMs with little past history tell another GM what he's doing?

From Bill:
Along the way, the Flyer floats an offer of one of the Flyers' two third-round picks if the Blue Jackets will reveal whom they play to take with the eighth pick.

Unless I'm misreading or Bill is wrong, the Flyers are offering CBJ a 3rd rounder if they'll declare who they're taking at 8.

Do you think it makes sense, or that Hextall would just give Columbus a 3rd round pick just for telling him who they want to pick, 2 picks later than the Flyers pick?

The Flyers are offering their 7th overall for Columbus 9th overall and a 3rd, with the condition that Columbus tells them who they'll pick.

Just watched an old Coxe Probert fight, and realized how much NHL fights suck now. No one's willing to take a punch, it's a bunch of grab, tie up, rabbit punch, reach, grab, grab, rabbit punch, etc. The 70s/80s/90s had guys who were willing to eat one to land one. Looking at this video, no one in today's NHL, even a thug like John Scott, could hang with either of these two.

Columbus was picking 8th overall, not 9th. The potential trade of the 7th was not to Columbus. He was trying to figure out who they'd take at 8 to see who would be available at 9.

The Flyers had an offer from San Jose -- who picked ninth -- to move back two spots. Columbus picked eighth. Hextall wanted to know whom the Blue Jackets planned to take before they went ahead and moved back to pick up an extra asset. The Flyers did not want to risk losing Provorov.

My mistake, same difference. Flyers weren't just offering a 3rd round pick to find out who Columbus wanted.

Holy crap.. B. Holtby and the Caps are pretty far off.. He is asking for $8 mil and the club was offering $5.1

Does he seriously think he is worth 8 mil?

In the video Kekäläinen doesn't say that Hextall is offering Columbus a 3rd round pick, he says "he (Hextall) has an offer of a 3rd" to move back 2 spots and is fishing for information on who Columbus wants to take.

They wanted to make sure they got Provorov at 9th. There would have had to be something else coming back from Columbus, even if it was, say, a 5th round pick in 2016 or 2016. But the main thing Hextall wanted was the info. Jarmo wanted some info from Hexy first but he wouldn't go for that.

Man that's the truth. They don't throw em like that anymore. Some of my faves were:
Bridgman vs Terry O'Reilly
Holmgren vs Schultz (Homer destroyed the Hammer that night!)
Behn Wilson vs Clark Gillies
Probert vs McSorley

You rarely, if ever, see fights like that anymore.

Probert vs. McSorely is a great one. At the end, they're completely gassed, but they just keep trading until McSorely finally gives and Probert gives him a few straight. Those guys were as tough as they come.

As much as I dislike him, Tie Domi was the best I've ever seen at taking a punch. You'd hit him flush and he'd smile at you.

But why would Kelakinaneanzovanen tell Hextall? Because he's just that nice of a guy?

Yup, I remember watching that one, I think it was a network game. They were both totally spent afterwards, they must have thrown em for at least 2 or 3 straight minutes!

I mean, he had a good season.... but that would make him paid higher than the likes of Rask, Bobrovsky, quick, Price, Rinne, Crawford.....

He's good, not that good though....

Gotta aim high, right. I think he's worth at least $6m. His consistency has been incredible for a young goalie.

He played I think 73 games this year, and was great. But it's the first time he's been a full-time starter in his career (I'd consider 50+ games a "full-time" starter), so I'd say it's pretty high. I'd say $5-$6M is more than fair.

Dude also turtled against Emery.

Right, there has to be an incentive. Although it is possible that Jarmo said "tell us first if you are targeting a forward or a d" and, when Hexy wouldn't divulge anything, neither would Columbus.

That could be.

Anyway, I'm glad the Flyers stayed where they were and got their man.

He started the majority of the Caps games in 12-13 and 13-14, and has more NHL experience than Schneider did when he signed his 7 year contract. And Schenider had not started 50 games in a season when NJ signed him.

Schneider's extension was 7 years at $6M per. You think that Holtby has that much more experience that he can command $8M per? I don't. Two years as the "more than the other guys" starter and one great season starting 70+ games is not worth $8M per, to me.

I'd do 6.25 for 3-4 years for him easy. He's worth it. While still relatively young, term is what you need to watch here. He's only really had one season of elite production. They need to be careful.

Supposedly both sides are looking at a long term deal, which is probably why Holtby is aiming for the stars with his asking price. If he's going to be there on a long term deal, he wants a fair cap it over the duration of the deal. They'll find middle ground.
