Well, Buddy Rich might disagree, lol

Even Peart knows Rich was in a different stratosphere than anyone else.

Listen to Genesis albums from the 70s, yrs he is that good

I saw Phil Collins sit in on drums with Clapton during a Clapton and friends concert. It was absolute genius. Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and Collins. Just awesome.

I know all of you audiophiles will disagree because it's not super technical or hard to play, but I'll always take a band that can get this kind of reaction, has this kind of intimacy with their fans, and doesn't need a barricade to feel safe over 4 dudes up there playing the most technical piece of music ever created with 5 layers of security standing on a 15-foot-high stage where everyone just stands still for 3 hours.

I saw the Dead about 15 times tween 83 and 92. Wish I could remember more of the shows, but oh well!
- BiggE

My dad would tell you that you never saw a real Dead show, but he is most definitely a Grateful Dead elitist.

It seems that the general consensus is that the Europe 72 Tour was their pinnacle. He said that after 76, they really stopped being the same and became more and more "popish" if you will. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that the GD were a very serious thing to him, and he didn't like what they became in the 80s, and didn't like the "new crowd."

But like I said, he's definitely an elitist. He'd never say you're wrong to like them, just that you never saw a "real" show.

Joely? She's cute, but nothing extraordinary in my view. Of course, that is extremely subjective.

To a layman, not a musician, hard to know the difference between a drummer that is phenomenal, and one that is average. As a music fan, I have my favorites.

The Rolling Stones are better than Led Zepplin. Not more influential, but better, and much more not dead.

There, it's been said. It needed to be said, and it has been.

Did you have the worst seat in the house? The seat behind Bill Walton?

I crack up when I hear him talk about the Dead. I think he's seen 1000+ shows.

- PLindbergh31

It's easy to crack up when you listen to Bill Walton, because the dude sounds like a human muppet.

I "discovered" the Grateful Dead in high school, in the mid to late 80's. It was odd to me to discover how weirdly possessive older Dead Heads were of the band. Most were really nice people when you went to shows, but you ran into some where you just thought "lighten up, bumhole".

My dad is a really nice, outgoing, friendly guy for the most part, and he'd never discourage someone from liking whatever they're into. But when it comes to the GD, he just sees them as a pre-77 and post-77 band.

Yeah, that's the ride I got on but I followed through until Looking Glass. Johnny Marr was a big fan so how could I not have been.
