Van Miller or Ted Darling?
- homiedclown

I'd have to say Ted, because I was more of a TV guy than radio (so I never even knew RJ until he took over TV duties).

Wow.

I'm all for positive thinking, but wow.

I still can't make up my mind as to whether or not this is a legit article or a big joke. I mean it is hilarious and all, but somehow I think the "author" has deluded himself into thinking that the Leafs have any chance in landing McDavid if he turns out even half as good as people think he will.

Really Benoit(balls) Puliot? Mr five teams in five years, never scored more than 36 points in a season? The oilers would drop him so fast to sign McDavid. Unless he-McDavid- is Alexandre Dangle like bad there's no way they pick keeping Puliot over him.

On a side note how did Puliot get $4,000,000 a season? Talk about inflated contracts. There's gotta be an extra 0 right? How does Derek Roy not have a ROR type deal yet then? I mean at least Ville Leino was amazing in the Flyers run at the cup.

I was never a big Bills fan but I did like Van. I remember him most from calling the Buffalo Braves games in the 70's and I think Stan Barron did some of that as well. As a kid growing up playing hockey I have fond memories of Ted's calls on tv and he did some radio in the early years. He was so good at his craft. And as RJ rightfully points out, Ted is and always will be the voice of the Sabres.

To me, that depends on age. When Ted retired, I was only 9. So to me, it's always been RJ. I don't really remember Ted at all.

That's certainly fair and understandable. I always enjoyed Ted's calls of the games in the early years. Just a shame he passed away so young. I guess there is a reason for naming the press box at the arena after him.

I'm a big fan of Adams irons. Their claim to fame is their hybrids but since I don't really hit my hybrids much (because I suck at it) I can't really speak about them. I do really like my irons though.

When I found out that Van passed away the other day I felt like a piece of my childhood died. I remember when he retired. It needed to happen as he was really struggling at that point, but it was still weird to think his voice wouldn't be the one we'd hear anymore. It's going to be the same way when RJ retires for me. I've noticed quite a few of the late "Van" tendencies the last few years, so I know it's time, but it'll be weird knowing that RJ won't be calling games at all anymore.

I don't mind Dunleavy though. I think he does a pretty good job. Unfortunately, there just aren't guys like RJ around anymore.

In Darling's last year, he wondered to the best western bar a few times in lockport.

It was sad seeing him fragile and gibberish. His condition was to the point where his comprehension in a conversation was zilch.

I saw the same in my great uncle before he passed.

When I was a kid, I was wondering how he knew the town the fans were from, when I was in my early 20's, I realized dying sucks

I would have to think this could be RJ's last season. I might be in the minority but I actually like Dunleavy a lot.
