I think he gets more time on the 1st pp and likely top line minutes, the Leafs will put him in scenarios where he will succeed and look good. Showcase . likely gets a ton of O zone starts etc

not even sure half his mistakes were because of him, many a time I seen him rattle it up the boards to our blueline just to NOT have a (frank)ing winger there willing to battle for the puck and get it out Id get sick of that in a real hurry..

the constant getting hemmed in our own zone and lack of good outlet passes isnt the Ds fault, team had some seriously soft wingers who didnt want to battle for the puck
