Strome is a better prospect than Draisatl? Completely disagree. I'd take Leon over Strome any day of the week.
- NugentHallberle

....Strome was a 3rd in a super strong draft. Leon was a 3rd in a super weak draft. Leon also proved nothing this year

Hahahahaha Classic Tanner
- NEONDOUBLEDION

Drouin, Galchenyuk, Huberdeau all drafted 3rd overall in recent years. All went back to CHL for development. Tanner knows though.

Super DEEP draft, which means there is more than just 1-3 top end talents. Doesn't mean those top end talents are any better than previous top end talents (outside of McDavid and Eichel of course).

He was also talking about comparing them right after they were drafted. Not this year.

I'd still argue Leon is better right now; guy tore up WHL and Mem Cup. Strome led league in points playing with the next Crosby... I'll take Leon.

Well sure there is - being in the NHL is likely the best place for him to develop and there is almost no history of players of his skill level being sent back to Junior.

Draisaitl sort of, but I would say Strome is a way better prospect.

- James_Tanner

We sent Huberdeau back to Juniors. Same with Gudbranson. The OHL to AHL rule needs to go away. Once a player is drafted they become property of whatever NHL team drafted them and they should be eligible for the AHL.

Did I say to keep him in the NHL? Either way, Strome is a superior prospect to all three of those guys.

Not a bubble team where they'd need that potential extra push, not a playoff team where again they'd need that push, let him develop more and avoid ruining his confidence.

Yup, every 3rd overall pick is the same. You nailed it.

Strome won't be good enough next season. He still has a few holes in his game and it would be better for him to stay another year in junior.

And when McDavid was hurt for the majority of the year he still lit up the OHL. Any hockey fan or non homer Oilers fan would rather have Strome no questions asked. Strome would of likely been the first overall or at least the second overall pick last year.

Please don't be a homer Oilers fan. Strome is superior to Leon. There is really no debate in this. They said he would probably be a first overall pick in many other drafts.

It's all about ice time. If he was on a NHL team he would probably a 3rd line center. In this case he'd be better off playing Junior and getting tons of ice time. Since the Coyotes are not a good team then he could play top six minutes.

I wish they would allow 18 and 19 year old players to play in the AHL. Give them one season to become a pro and go from there.

Exactly... Look at domi...3 years in junior. last year they should have had him in the AHL but rules are rules. Maloney made that point several times.

as for strome. They are not going to send him back to junior if hes ready. the coyotes are pretty much done with FA and are looking right now at a few trade options. depending whos moving out that may not only open a spot up for strome but one other.

tanner...did you watch any of the coyotes prospect camp? you can go on youtube and see pretty much everything from all three days. You can see strome for yourself and compare him to Duclair and domi...also check out Perlini and see if that changes your prospective on if strome is ready.

Exactly, and nearly all first overall picks go straight to the NHL - all of them I think, if there is one who hasn't, I can't think of him. Ovechkin because of the lockout...I'll have to look it up.....so I say let him play. At least nine games and if he's good, keep him.

I doubt anyone read all six chapters of the blog, but I haven't heard anyone make an argument yet that I didn't cover.

Honestly, I didn't see any of it. I don't really dig those kind of things. IF you want to save me the time and give me the rundown of what you saw, that'd be cool. Thanks

Hanzal is NOT a legit top 30 centre. He's barely a legit top 60 centre. He might be the Coyotes best centre but, although I enjoy the Coyotes, they are plecostomos' this season and are better of staying that way to have a shot at Mathews in next years draft. But there are definitely more than 30 centres who are better than Hanzal.

I'd say all three you mention are equal or better in terms of prospect at that age. Gally's only knock right after the draft was his knee was of concern. Drouin was a top flight prospect and Huberdeau was a no brainer to be in the NHL quickly.

Why would you want Strome on that Greasy, Burning, Dumpster Fire of a Farce Team!?

Keep all the prospects away until they sort that poop out.

Mike modano went back to junior after being selected first overall, and he turned out pretty well. But you're correct most first overall selections go straight to the nhl.

Nothing wrong with sending strome back to learn a complete 200 foot game nhl centres need to learn to play these days, plus gives him the opportunity to mature physically and improve upon his skating. As well as giving the opportunity to be one of the leaders for canada'sworld junior team. One more year would only help his development, not hinder it.

I think the whole deal of "rushing" a player and ruining his development is because of the kid being in the wrong situations. The coach cant make him the focus of the team but also cant give him 4th like minutes. If you play him in the right minutes, (meaning every PP and some PK) his play will dictate what the coach does.

But I agree with him not being sent back, how do you follow up a 129pt season, maybe 135? Great on paper but did it do anything for his development?

In the NHL, he'd have the best trainers and workout regime which will NEVER hurt a young kid. Pack on that muscle and enjoy a great career.

In 2006, Toews was 3rd, Backstrom was 4th. Toews is better than Backstrom.

Backstrom is still pretty good.

I wouldn't say he is superior to Drouin. They are both great prospects and have different strengths over each other but I wouldn't call one better than the other...
