Who knows, maybe we get a guy on waivers or make a trade with one of the cap strapped teams. I say play the kids, it's their time.

What????
Oduya had offers sitting for a while!
Nobody wants Franson.
He is NOT GOOD!!

- Sabresfan88

Franson has probably received offers, he just may not like any of them.

He is toooo slow, gets beat by faster guys left and right!

- Sabresfan88

You keep saying he is not good.

His issue is speed. However there are plenty of slower defensemen in the NHL, who don't produce nearly as much as Franson.

Is he a savior? No but he is a better top 4 guy than Josh Gorges.

OK.
I just think we are rushing into things if we think we need to sign freaking Franson.
He is too slow, gets beat a lot by faster players.
We don't need him.

Yeah, here's what I think. While it's unlikely any of us has a clue about what's inside Murray's head, and things like the salary cap, NTCs/NMCs, and the declining economy's impact on future revenues make it nearly impossible to trade anyone of any significance, it's not inconceivable that the Sabres could make a mid-season move.

Kane, ROR, Eichel and Girgens are probably not on the block since they represent the young core of this team and are all locked up long-term. We all know ROR's contract is insane, but given the length and amount of the others, it seems unlikely to me there's a better deal out there. Remember Ted Black is a numbers guy, and 7.5 mil 6 years from now will be looking pretty good. Ennis's deal is an especially favorable one for the club. You might even be able to throw Kane into this category b/c his value to the Sabres is high given his hustle and toughness.

Weber, Legawns and McGinn are popular choices for a change of venue, but their UFA status would mean they'd need to go to a contender for the receiving team to be willing to assume the risk. That said, what's the likelihood of a contender sending the Sabres something worthy of a blockbuster? That's not even taking into account Weber sucking for the last 2 years, Foligno getting a reputation of being lazy, and McCormick being more fragile than the leg lamp in A Christmas Story. This, coming from the guy who actually owns a McCormick jersey.

As far as young talent at forward goes, Reinhart, Girgensons and Ennis are the only roster players in that category. They're all tradable, but not enough to bring in an impact player. To me, the Sabres would need to include one of Baptiste, Carrier or Bailey to get another team interested. Possible, though Eichel seems like he's got a future here.

Lastly, if they're really trying to fix the recent injury problem at defense, they're not going to trade any defensemen. Even still, it's more likely they'll do what they did last year and bring in a veteran like Andrej Meszaros to temporarily fill the gap until Gorges is healthy again (a few weeks?). I haven't looked to see who like that is available, but they found someone last year and could probably do it again.

We Sabres fans have gotten used to the fact that Murray rarely makes any moves. In fact, who really does anymore? I'd love to be wrong, but not at the expense of 23 / 15 / 28 / 9. You can have Matt freaking Ellis. Twice.

The Red Wings have only $835K in cap space and need to sign Jurco and Pulkinen. They have 7 dmen signed so maybe we can get one of their guys- Smith or Kindl.

We talked yesterday about Jamie Oleksiak in Dallas.

Minnesota has 8 dmen if you count Reilly in that mix so maybe Scandella becomes available, big maybe.

Winnipeg has 10 dmen signed.

I would think Detroit could be the best trade partner for a dman.

Not exactly. But signing him wouldn't really help the idea of Pysyk or Risto having to play on their offside. I guess I don't see the point in paying a guy a lot of money when he's really not fixing the problem. Does that make more sense?
- HonkFortheGoose

It does make sense. I am just looking at both sides of the argument.

Possibly, maybe even probable but they'll probably treat him like they did Pysyk. He'll get top line minutes in Rochester most of the year instead of 3rd line minutes in Buffalo - better for development
- turbo044

the question is... will the coach call out TM if he does that

I was looking at them yesterday. Kindl didn't get much playing time last year and was a healthy scratch if I'm not mistaken. Quincey was the one that intrigued me the most and is a lefty.

And honestly, I would be ok with that. I just don't see the point if it's really not helping us as much as we really would need it to.

I thought a Wings fan was on here not too long ago and said Quincey wasn't very good for them last year. I could be wrong on that. He has only 1 more year on his contract then he'll be a UFA so not a big risk to get him.
