[quote=cpltanto]what happens if we let him play on the Flames for 5-6 games and decide to send him "down". Can that be the AHL? If it's back to Europe, what if we want to recall him? Can that be done?
That really doesn't allow much mobility...think how many times we had recalled TSpoon or Granlund or Shore....in for a few games, then back down.

Yah I get the feeling there is more than meets the eye here. If he gets sent back down then AIK gets first crack at him? Why sign him at this stage then? The flames must think that he will play this year and it would be better for them to develop him on a third line role than him go back and play on the top line?

I think they wanna give him an opportunity to make the team, I don't expect him to make it this year though. If he gets sent down then odds are he spends a full season in AIK and possibly comes up to finish the season in the AHL (or WHL depending on how far along they view his development).

The only way he plays in N.America this year (excluding the slim possibility that he makes the team out of camp) is if Calgary can manage to work out some kind of deal with AIK to persuade them to allow Kylington to break his contract. Could happen, but odds are he heads back to Europe after a few preseason games.

The Kesler signing is madness. Makes me worry about Gio's contract. I know Flames are not in the same situation as the Ducks, but a 7-8 year contract where at best you can hope for 3 "good" years is scary.

Anyone have any idea who Gio's Agent is?

Kesler signing is just horrid. The guy made it known he wanted to be in ANA by choosing them last summer. You then feel the need to give him a NMC?

I don't buy the whole "we are a cap floor team, we have the space". Why over spend on him when you can use that extra space to lure an upgrade elsewhere in your lineup?

This isn't a small market team that doesn't really care about winning the next few years. This is a contender who's window to win is in the next few years.

But I still wonder if he's in AIK, can he be recalled to the Flames if needed due to injuries, etc..?

He could, but it would be unusual for sure. It would take him a full day to get here, and then another couple to adjust to the time zone... I think the Stockton guys would make way more sense.

Well I think both AB clubs should be happy that they signed him for as much and as long as they did.

You happy with how your club is shaping up? I guess hard not to be McLovin it.

Where is the Limit that everyone says to much money and feels a trade should be explored for Gio.

Anything longer than 7 years 8 million is my limit.

I'm 100% on the anti-trade Gio side of things, but I'd have to agree with you. 5 years @ 8 mill would be fair, longer than that and it starts to get too risky. I still think Gio signs at 7-7.5 for 7 years or so.

Hopefully they frontload the poop out of the contract so we can potentially dump him on a team looking to make the cap floor if by chance his career goes south in a hurry after 35.

That's why I'm wondering if the out clause includes any time spent playing on the Flames...
like ideally the Flames sign him and play him, if they need him to get more playing time or conditioning, send him to the AHL, tell AIK we'll be recalling him soon anyway so no point him going back to Europe if he could be asked to play on the Flames again at any time.
Maybe AIK releases him just to avoid the hassle....
