Second question. Umberger for Lupul?
- mickel25

MacDonald + Umberger + 2017 3rd for Robidas + Lupul.

I definitely wouldn't do Umberger straight up for Lupul because Umberger is such a cheap buy out next summer if that's what required to stay under the cap.

But yeah, cutting years from that albatross contract would be worth any short term pain w/ Lups, IMO. Guy can play left too, which we definitely need.

Don't see TO accepting AMac back tho... not w/ that # loving management group

MacDonald + Umberger + 2017 3rd for Robidas + Lupul.

What's Robidas got left? I assume it's ugly?

2x3, the contract isn't the killer... his play on the ice... he looks like BigMacVinnyBurger out there.

BTW, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around Ryan Kesler's extension

It's gonna take me a minute on that one

Alex Tuch. His poop eating grin while he celebrates past the other team's bench may be the best part.

Well at least they're his teammates too.

That celebration lol

Without a doubt the best thing that Alex Tuch has ever done. I don't even need to see anything else to know that it's his best.

That said, if somebody had hopped off the bench and 2-handed him in the head, I wouldn't say I agree with them, but I'd understand.

I would not want to give up the 3rd but getting rid of the other two players is very intriguing. Lupul is easily traded for a pick of some sort if shows he is healthy. Robidas could be bought cheaper than Umberger.

That's their rookie scrimmage. I'd think the Wild management might be upset if that happened.

That's because they don't have a Goulbourne on their team.

There is that -- if Umberger looks brutal this year, you'd almost have to be pulling the cord on a buyout

Pretty much. I would roll with:

Lupul-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Raffl-BSchenn-Gagner
VandeVelde-Bellemare-White
Vinny

Laughton would come up if there were any injuries in the top 9.

Schultz-Streit
Del-Zotto-LSchenn
Medvedev-Gudas
Manning-Robidas

Robidas could be buried in the AHL if they want to carry 14 forwards.

Yeah. At this time next year, it's a fair chance that Luke Schenn and Umberger are gone, which just leaves us with the horror of Wheels to deal with

And really, almost every team has one horrific contract

The Flyers just need to figure out how to make it so MacDonald plays 17-18 minutes a night and doesn't look like he should be getting scratched -- if he does that, then at least you're getting something out of him

You're saving years and money. I might do it.

Then again, Umberger was playing the entire season injured, and he really can't go anywhere but up. I'm actually willing to see what he can do this year. If he can play a semblance of responsible 2-way hockey, skate without looking like he's carrying a rhino on his back, and put up 12/20/32, I'd be okay with it. Not happy, but okay.

Man...if somebody tells me that Umberger can do a 12/20, I'd take that, no questions asked

Just don't think he's got that in the tank, but here's to hoping -- it's the summer, and all things are possible

Defense might not hold up for 82 games, but that could get you to 90-95 points

There's no cap relief if you buy out Robidas because he's on an over 35 contract. But I think you can make his cap hit work for two more seasons. If he's waived to the AHL it would only be a little over $2m.

http://www.generalfanager.com/buyouts/52

NOTE: there is no cap relief for contracts that start in a year where a player will be 35 or older as of June 30th of that year. The contract you have selected to buy out applies in this case. You will see that the cap hit remains the same for the player, but there are salary savings. The team will pay the player 2/3 his total remaining salary over twice the remaining years.

In 13/14, he put up 18/16/34 and never put up less than 30 points (pro-rated for 12/13) aside from last season and the season that shall not be named. If he's healthy, I could see him getting back 30-esque points.

The defense is shaky but if guys get hurt or play really badly Hextall will have Morin, Ghost, Hagg, Alt and Marti to call on.

Dear Lord, I hope so -- I really did want him to just be a solid player

Those 30-ish points could really help, if he can provide them
